The Fastest Way to Street Readiness. Guaranteed - - - In this video clip, you are viewing 1 of 6 sample clips from Lesson 1 of the 36-lesson Gracie Combatives program. Our objective in making it available on YouTube is to give you an idea of the level of detail you can expect each lesson and to introduce you to the ground-breaking linear learning format that makes the Gracie Combatives DVD collection the most highly regarded martial arts instructional DVD series of all time.

Here is some more information about the Gracie Combatives course:

The Course
Although Gracie Jiu-Jitsu consists of more than 600 techniques, studies of the fights conducted by members of the Gracie Family show that 36 techniques have been used more often, and with greater success, than all the other techniques combined. Originally developed for the U.S. Army, Gracie Combatives is the only course that is entirely dedicated to the mastery of these 36 essential techniques. Until recently, this course was taught exclusively at a small network of Gracie Academy certified training centers, but now, the complete Gracie Combatives course is available on DVD and can be learned from the comfort of your own home!

The Objective
What makes the Gracie Combatives collection so unique is that it is the only instructional DVD series ever produced with the sole objective of taking the viewer - regardless of their age, gender or athletic ability - from no knowledge to street ready without ever stepping foot into a school of martial arts. Every other instructional video series to date was designed to give viewers additional techniques and tips to complement the training they were receiving at an actual school of martial arts, whereas the entire Gracie Combatives series was produced under the assumption that the viewer had absolutely no previous experience.

Dynamic Reflex Development
What separates Gracie Combatives from other martial arts instructional DVDs is a revolutionary teaching system called Dynamic Reflex Development™. Although there are thousands of martial arts instructional DVDs in existence that show the viewers how to do various techniques, up until now, there has never been an instructional series that gives the viewers the exact system they must follow to develop their reflexes in the execution of all the techniques in combination with one another. In each Gracie Combatives lesson, the new technique is first presented to you in the form of simplified drills, or Technical Slices™. Then, it is combined with one other technique in a Reflex Development Drill™. Finally, at the end of each lesson, you will learn how to execute the newly learned technique in the context of a real fight by combining it with several other techniques in a Fight Simulation Drill™.

I watched this video one time, enrolled in my local Gracie University, and have not missed a class in 3 months. Heading into the Gracie Master Cycle this week. This has literally changed my life. These are the best Jiujitsu teachers around imo. Thanks for everything guys.

The hugging mount escape should be the first self-defense technique taught at all BJJ gyms. Great stuff!!

Firstly, unlike many well meaning folks, you are clear and concise.
- When we try out this escape we have trouble with the move at 1:30 (sliding out slightly).  We get no movement when we try to slide.
- With the wrap over the arm at 1:42 we wind up not being able to flip the attacker.  He has great leverage with the remaining hand.  If we pull both of the attackers arms inside to our sternum we can flip the attacker easily.  I almost got a double flip of my instructor.  I highly suspect that our arm wrap problem is because we are so focused on staying off the ground and that someone trained in Jiu-Jitsu could deal with it easily.

This is amazing, signing up at a Gracie University 30 minutes from my house.

Jiujitsu needs to get back to this. All this lopsided focus on sport BJJ is okay, but this is more important.

Ryron and Rener have another video on just that very question! Put in Youtube search bar:QCFbtnZQncg Or put in the search bar: Blocking punches from the mount. It is the first Jiu-Jitsu related video you see. It cover actually what to do if the person spreads their arms out wide when they are mounting you!

What I meant was they show a different Trap and Roll technique for escaping the mount when the opponent is throwing punches.
I just want to know why they changed it this way.

Ryron and Rener,
I've tried do do this technique (which is great!), but have a serious question about one little detail of it. What if the attacker spreads his arms really wide open and really stretched/stiff? It becomes very hard to trap his arm to do the roll. Should I just wait for the guy to move the arm (wait for him to try to punch me, for example), or are there other alternatives to "break his arm stiffness"?
Thank you guys. Beautiful work.

Got the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu Street Self Defense DVD.
In the bonus Ryron and Rener teach a different way to defend punches from the mount.
Why was this way chosen for Combatives?
