I remember RS Tate and Liza having the distinction of being the only team that can be beaten in a single turn. A double Surf sweep is just too good to ignore.

Edit: yes, I do realize I forgot Surge in Yellow. Two points on that:
1. He is only the third gym, so it's not nearly as egregious.
2. Since he mirrors the anime, having the single overpowered Raichu makes sense.

RS Tate and Liza have absolutely no excuse, particularly when their team in Emerald is one of the strongest among 7th Gym Leaders.

I would argue that Tate&Liza are even worse in Gen 6. Yes Surf now hurts your team as well, but there are so many other very powerful water, grass, dark, and steel moves now that you don't even need to use it. Not to mention you have access to mega evolution before them, so you have access to very powerful Pokemon such as Mega Sceptile, Swampert, Gyarados, Banette, Aggros, and others that completely stomp their team. Their levels are a bit higher than in Ruby/Sapphire, but that isn't enough to make up for the power creep.

Ah yes, the Gen 9 7th gym, so strong that I fought them 6th and didn't even notice.

Tate and Liza actually gave me so much trouble.
It ended in a war of atrition. I was down to one pokemon slowly chipping away at their health while they constantly calm minded and the feeling of victory I felt still stands out to me. I'm sure it's just because I was young and inexperienced, but I beat them. I did it on my last pokemon, all out of revives, barely keeping above struggle bug.

Maybe I was just bad, but Sapphire Tate and Liza clapped me on multiple occasions when I played through Sapphire as a wee lad.

As a Mah-dry-bread fan, I think gen 1 Blaine might be weaker than gen 3 Blaine due to terrible ai and roar not working. He will use super potions on full hp Pokémon.

Tate & Liza were a menace when you played gen 3 for the first time. Your time was WAY underlevel in contrast to theirs. In addition, Both were new pokemon and you didn’t know their weakness and you had basically zero real experience in double battles.

I'm ashamed to say I could not beat them as a kid because I only used my starter so I had a level 50 blaziken and nothing else and they'd wipe me so quick

I was going to say Tate and Liza from Ruby and Sapphire. I remember being disappointed with the first doubles gym leader battle being koed by a surf from both pokemon on my side.

Nah, id argue that gen 1's bad AI more than makes up for fire spin shenanigans. Not only does he actively use roar (despite it doing nothing in trainer fights in gen 1) but he also spams healing items...at full health.

Bonus points to Pryce in gen 2 for somehow being even weaker than Jasmine.

It's funny because being a double battle in RS is to their detriment. You can get any 2 water types and just fire off a surf each to end it in one turn. Even 1 water type is enough to get a 2 turn knock out since solrock is useless without sun.

They were so bad that this was the first time I thought at the start "if it ain't the 2 then that's just wrong", especially with Swampert being a common start and water existing like stupid. Though honestly I don't recall their upgrade making a major difference. 2 surfers as watermn clean the team in 2 turns
