Tutorial #40 A must know technique. NOT a puzzle.

PLEASE NOTE. This is NOT a real puzzle. Don't try to solve it as a puzzle. It is a demonstration only of a technique

VERY IMPORTANT.... Some subscribers have told me they are not getting notification of when I upload a new video. YouTube has been working on this issue. I am pleased to inform all my subscribers that if you click on the bell at the right side of the red subscription button, you should receive a notification from YouTube that I will be uploading something new on a particular day and time.
I will only be putting up notifications once or twice a month.
One advantage of doing this on my channel is that when I premier a new video you have the opportunity to chat with me as well if you wish.
For frequently asked questions FAQ

When you have 3 or 4 or 5 or 6 or more empty cells in a row column or block this "outside the puzzle" procedure is VERY helpful.

Frequently when solving puzzles there are several paths to take to solve the puzzle. SO MUCH DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU SPOT AND WHEN. In this video there is a 3X3 of 2,3 and 5. which means you can remove all other small numbers of 2,3 and 5 in the rest of the row. This will also help you come up with a correct solution. Thanks to Jim W for pointing this out.
ALSO note that 8 can only go in column 3, because block 3 has an 8, column 5 has an 8 and column 1 has an 8. See lesson 13 "There's only one place it can go"

NEW you can now go to my web site and see an INDEX OF VIDEOS under strategy headings. Clcik on the number and it will take you to the video of interest.

You seem like a great teacher. The fact you go through so many comments, even if you have to sift through a lot of the same questions, shows how much you care.

My teacher handed out sudoku books, and I had to finish it for my homework.
Thank you for teaching me this technique! :)

I would like to thank you for the lessons you’ve taught me. I play electronically but I use the same concepts. The app I use forces me to be quick in order to get a good score but I still wouldn’t do as well as I do without your tutelage. It is SO fun and I think it helps keep my brain young.

My grandfather got me into chess and sudoku, but I never quite got the knack of any sudoku above hard lol

I need to find another video.

Hi, Sudoku Guy, ...just thought I would say a big thank you for your tutorials. Two months ago, I was an absolute dunderhead about sudoku. Now, thanks to you, I am solving fiendish and diabolical puzzles with little difficulty.
Keep up the good work.
By the way, it is now my favourite pastime.

Great explanations! I find I can solve most puzzles with this technique and the pairs, along with the pairs patterns that I’ve kind of gotten in my head with experience. I have Tourette’s Syndrome and puzzles help me ground myself and decrease my tics after a long day 😊

I solved two easy ones earlier today but I got stuck in four others, got frustrated 🤬🤬🤬and tossed them out... Can't wait to try your wonderful techniques. And you made me smile, reminded me of how happy I felt in High school when a mathematical formula finally made sense to me...thank you so much!

You got me into Sudoku. Started just last week. Was stuck on a few but now I've seen this I can go back over the many I give up on and check for a number that appears in only one cell. I'll be back to watch your next video when I'm stuck again (no doubt). Thank you for your great tuition Sudoku Guy.
