Trump's message isn't wooing workers losing job...

When Carrier announced it was moving more than 1000 jobs to Mexico earlier this year, presidential candidate Donald Trump attacked the company and defended workers at the plant. But Trump's message failed on two counts: it didn't gain the labor union's support and it ignores the complexities of globalization. Cristina Alesci reports.

The future of factory work is automation. In the not so distant future, labour costs will disappear. Focus needs to be in new technology, serious retrainment and taxation on automation to support guaranteed minimum income so no one is left behind. This is where the 1st world is headed. When the refrigerator was invented, the thought of protecting the jobs in the ice box industry was never made, why do it now in current and similar contexts?

It's both trade deals and corporate greed responsible for this. These companies not necessarily Carrier but many of these outsourcing companies can afford to pay their employees they just choose not to. It's absolutely terrible that Carrier would do this. It's time to elect new leadership that would try to protect these people's jobs. No I'm not implying any candidate for president would or would not do this in just saying it's time to make a change.

If Trump was head of Carrier, as "businessman" because everyone thinks a businessman could run the Presidency better, what would a businessman do? Of course move to Mexico. Nobody in business ever thinks, jez, how many employees can I hire? Businessmen think how few can I hire to make the most money. Politicians think, how many people can I force this business to hire if I do "this" for them, tax breaks, incentives, investment etc. The difference between a politician and a "businessman"

Been in the HVAC trade for nearly 20 years and for about the first 5 installed probably hundreds of Carrier furnaces, rooftop unit, and various air handlers. Very much liked them and put a Carrier furnace in my first new house back in '01. Today I am an HVAC contractor. I have various equipment I like... I very much like and push hard to install as much American made equipment as practical!!!

Hearing of Carrier moving production of much of their furnaces to Mexico was quite disappointing to me! Was a difficult decision but at that time decided I would not install anything of Carriers!!!! It's unfortunate for those workers who still remain employees in the USA to not buy their product.. but one part we as contractors and all us as home owners can play is to demand equipment made here in the states!!! Maybe then if enough people quit buying it then they will wake up!!! I wouldn't hold my breath!

One thing we can all agree is that the GOP and Republicans say they love a "free market" ..let the market decide they say.. well that is great when a free market works for them! So give Carrier a free market and QUIT buying their stuff!!! Promote American made! Their talented staff building their equipment can find jobs with other US based manufacturing like Luxaire/Johnson Controls, American Standard, Fredrick!!

To the people that voted "Make America Great Again" you can start by buying American made stuff! That's everything from toys for your kids to the vehicles you drive! We hold the key to a greater America! Not millionaire's and billionaire's and the corporate greed of this country
