Ear wax plays a vital role in ear health. It helps to prevent ear infection and helps with ear cleaning by picking up any dirt or debris that accumulates in the ear canal. Normally this ear wax would fall out of the ear taking any dirt or debris with it.

How to remove ear wax?

Many people use q-tips/cotton buds for ear wax removal at home this is one of the worst things you can put into the ear as this can lead to an increased ear wax buildup or in extreme cases impacted ear wax. The best way to remove ear wax is to let your ears clean themselves and not to put anything smaller than your elbow in your ears!

How do I know if I have an earwax blockage?

If you experience a change in your hearing, discomfort in the ear or jaw or a feeling of fullness in the ear canal you may have an ear wax blockage. Our advice is to speak to your Doctor or local Audiologist who can take a look in your ears and assess whether ear cleaning is needed.

Found that so interesting and thanks for putting it in layman's terms rather than baffling us with too much technical information. Brilliant Rhys, thanks again 👌

This is so interesting as I have been experiencing auditory sensitivity, tinnitus and balance issues. I had corona virus a year ago and I had never put this together but now it makes sense and the timeline is about right!! I was fortunate enough not to be hospitalised and took nothing other than pain relief.
I visited an audiologist a few weeks ago who has referred me back to my GP for further investigation. So thank you so much for doing this video x

I got a positive COVID test on 3/8 and I have to say that I feel a fullness in my ears, with crackling and pain upon attempting the valsalva maneuver. I had pulsing tinnitus before COVID and it has gotten markedly worse. I’m a preschool speech therapist and I have found myself straining to hear my students quite a bit since I’ve resumed services. I’m none too pleased.

Very interesting. My heart goes out to the people suffering from hearing problems after having covid-19. I suffer from tinnitus and would not wish it on anyone. Thank you for this information.

What a really interesting video, I have to say until two minutes ago, I had never heard of any correlation between coronavirus and hearing loss/ tinnitus or balance issues. There have been six members of my family who have had covid in the past 12months, it would interesting to see if any of them have had either hearing loss or tinnitus, or problems with their balance since having the virus and whether they still have symptoms now. Many thanks for another thought provoking video Mr B

I thought I I was being a bit of a big baby because I've been complaining to my family that my right ear was ringing as well about a week after my stay in the hospital for covid pneumonia. My left ear have been ringing for over a year following a severe sinus/ear infection that resulted in a perforated ear drum and partial loss of hearing. Now I'm hearing ringing in both ears and they are not in unison. 😒

Interesting video! I hope the researchers continue to follow up on this so that a determination can be made as to what exactly impacted the ear. Bravo!

My mom lost all her hearing on one side from the flu a few years back.

Very interesting. It makes sense that something that affects the nasal area could affect the ears. I hope it's only temporary for those affected.

My child had Covid. They have tinnitus now. They weren’t hospitalized. I hope it’s not long term.

You presented a very good and outstanding synopsis of if there is a correlation between hearing issues and the corona virus. I'm glad to hear that the doctor in Manchester was doing additional studies post-corona virus to see if those conditions were present concerning hearing issues. Bravo! For presenting that clearly and concisely. Now I wonder if those issues also present, or worse, with the newer variants coming forth?
