Oakland Landlords Send Hundreds of Eviction Notices Despite City's Eviction Moratorium

Oakland landlords have sent hundreds of eviction notices to tenants during the pandemic, despite the city’s current moratorium banning most evictions – That’s according to records obtained by NBC Bay Area’s Investigative Unit. Jodi Hernandez reports.

Do they think they can live forever for free. How shall the owner pay his mortgage? When the building is repossessed they'll for sure be put out the bank isn't going to carry them.

If it's a few months, I understand, who hasn't been there? But almost a year. No. This woman is taking g advantage. Move in with family, a hostel, motel, shared living space, anything. But No. She wants to be rent free

There is plenty of mortgage relief, any federally backed loan is offering forbearance, and there is cash relief as well to owners. Stop terrorizing people. Owners are getting relief and kicking folks out. There should be huge fines for that.

I love how so many people live in a magical land where they think landlords can just forgive & forget about months of unpaid rent. As if all landlords are independently wealthy. Do they think the banks will just say "oh, you can just skip all those pesky mortgage payments."

It's harassment to ask for rent. Especially when most haven't payed a dime for a year.. the entitlement..

The landlord should have protections too! The renters are milking this situation, nothing is free. Forgive rent but the government won't forgive taxes and banks won't forgive mortgages. Forgive my rent because I can't take responsibility? You still have to pay the back rent after which will be ten of thousands of dollars!

Property owners should ban together and pay no property tax taxes in all states if they don't lift the eviction ban!
