After a 25 ballot local school board election where one member actually said something to the effect "you should be home taking care of your children" I needed some sanity and so headed to your feed out of Buffalo. Keep Rockin' it!

updated info - Nevada ratified the Equal Rights Amendment on 3/22/2017. so now we are 2 states short, not three. So now its a two state strategy- emphasis on Illinois, Virginia

You can't legislate into existence powers nature has not ruled upon from the beginning of creation. ERA will bring nothing to women but more work and confusion for the legal system. Example, Government may force acceptance into university, then through policy mandate a curve on the test so that you may pass, after that even a guaranteed Job. But when you get that Job will you be able to do it without mistakes and on time? This only nature can bestow. No matter how much government intervention you do the only thing that matters is if you have the strength to do that task. and to everyone personal strengths are never equal. Opportunity and Power are to entirely different things.

Both men & women would benefit from ERA. "The male and female are like the two wings of a bird and when both wings are reinforced with the same impulse the bird of humanity will be enabled to soar heaven-ward to the summit of progress." ~ Baha'i Faith

My wife has been talking about this a lot, but she keeps showing me propaganda type stuff that explains very little. This actually explains things and I appreciate it greatly. It took far more time to find an explanation than it should have.

Agreed. I would also say not having the 14th would of had many consequences as well, many not positive. Without the selective incorporation doctrine many of the "rights" we take fro granted would be non existent in many parts of the country. But again, I agree with your statement.

The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled in Allegheny Reproductive Health Center v. Pennsylvania Department of Human Services that -Opinion by Justice Donahue, "to treat a women differently based on a characteristic unique to her sex, " is to treat her differently because of her sex, which triggers enforcement of our Equal Rights Amendment.
The amendment was adopted to abolish this " persistent relegation of women to subservient and dependent roles." Donohue wrote according to the article.
The court issued a landmark opinion declaring that abortion restrictions do amount to sex based discrimination and therefore are "presumptively unconstitutional" under the states constitution's Equal Rights Amendment. Article 1 section 28.
Article written in Slate by Dahlia Lithwick and Mark Joseph Stern. (jurisprudence)

Im not religious at all but I completely agree with your comment. I should of been specific in saying it was the Catholic Church and Catholic League that opposed the ERA not individual Catholics. I know the Catholics at the root of the religious are in most cases progressive and mainly concerned with the plight of others. Much peace and respect.

As a non American discovering the historical development of this political issue, it forms into a classic example of the contradictory maneuvers of political parties on both sides of the electoral spectrum.
It's full of irony, even when considering the political stance of Phyllis Schlafly, a woman purporting to "protect" the traditional roles of the genders and yet she pursued the studies of the law and government.
To me it appears what she was advocating for the general housewife was not what she actually practised herself.
Using the accumulation of followers she gained as a means to promote her own, never fully fulfilled, political career.

I agree, I think the word feminist stems from the idea that the overwhelming majority of discrimination was aimed at women. The radical notion of feminism is that men and women are indeed equal. While the word has become highly politicized, its root stem from a deeply engrained perception that men were more qualified to lead than women. While men do face discrimination, as white people may too, historical grooves tend to discriminate vs the ladies. But I 100% agree with your comment.

The woman labeled as Alice Paul (jail picture) is actually Lucy Burns, her collaborator.

Yes, in any state in the United States. Fortunately (or perhaps unfortunately depending on where you live) the US Constitution only holds domain over our nation.

All the legislative actions and common law that give a woman above a man could be challenged.
