In this episode of In the Kitchen with Matt, I will show you how to eat plantains. This easy baked plantain recipe is one way to eat them. They can be boiled, baked, fried, or even grilled. There are so many different ways to prepare a plantain. In this video, I show you how to make sweet baked plantain chips. What are they? They are a type of banana that are traditionally cooked before eating since they aren't as sweet as a normal eating banana. They are also usually much larger than a normal eating banana. Plantains are also referred to as the "cooking banana" and grow all around the world in tropical climates like India, Florida, West Africa, Central Africa, and the Caribbean. They are starchy and as I mentioned are typically eaten after being cooked. But they can be eaten raw as well. They are easy to cook and eat, if I can do it, you can do it. Let's get baking!

My husband is the grocery shopper & cook. I went to grocer and bought what I thought was a very large banana. I sliced it up and put it in my cereal. My husband says, "That's a plantain not a banana." "A WHAT?" Anyway, I'm glad I did not put a whole lot of them as it would have overwhelmed. I'm going to try the bake plantains next.

I love to fry them! But this is a great idea, never thought about it!

You need to cook a plantain before you eat them. Green or yellow you can slice and deep fried. Or you can boil in water or brotn. Always PEEL THEM FIRST. No need to rinse.

Wanted to ask about the plaintains, you don't wash them after peeling as the ones we normally buy have stains like blackish???

We like to dehydrate them and add them to our cereal in the morning.
