Hey, here in Kerala we eat plantain just like a banana. Yes, we do make chips and curries with the unripe one. But we also eat plantain and it's sweet, obviously its a tad bit denser than the banana. you gotta let it get ripe though, and we steam the ripe plantains and it's really yummy as well. Here, the plantain he had wasn't as ripe as it was supposed to be.

Fun fact: We have 5 variants of banana here. Out of which 3 are the smaller varieties. And when properly ripe they are all sweet with its own unique flavour profile.

We have plantains everywhere in Nigeria. You can eat them raw once they’re ripe, boil them, roast them, fry them. Anything! Always a delicacy. I usually fry ripe plantain and eat with cooked beans. Yummy!

Plantains are actually incredibly sweet once they’re ripened. Also is very starchy. I like to blend them up when they’re super ripe and add it to my porridge. You often don’t even have to add a sweetener. Or I fry them in olive oil/butter and eat it as a side with my catfish, chicken, lamb etc if I want some sort of sweet and savory combo. I mean you can enjoy them savory which you just don’t let them ripen but I prefer them soft and sweet. Great nutritional value as well. I have two in a brown paper bag just waiting for them to get ripe so I can make a jerk chicken rice bowl.

As someone who's half Jamaican, plantains (we pronounce it plant-in same way you'd say mountain) are amazing. There isn't much better than fried plantain slices

In Venezuela we eat fried platains as a side dish regularly. We call them "tajadas" (when cut and fried). We also have other variations like platain chips (a snack) and "patacón" (kinda like a sandwich but the bread is fried platains). It's really good.

In Venezuela, where I'm from, and in many other Latin American countries, we eat plantains very often and they're cooked in several ways :) one of them being as "patacones" (cut, flattened and fried pieces of plantain with salt). And I just researched, and plantains and bananas are from the same genus ("Musa"); but they're different cultivars (some other category related to the way humans grow and adapt the fruits, flowers, vegetables, etc.), and the "Musa acuminata" is the average sweet, soft banana's cultivar, which is eaten raw, and Musa balbisiana is the starchy, often larger and often green(er) cultivar of banana, which are eaten after cooking it, hence it being called sometimes "cooking banana".

In the Caribbean, we boil them and eat it or cut them into thick slices and fry it, and it becomes very sweet.

Plantains are sweet... You peeled it too soon. Unlike a banana you don't peel and eat raw when it's yellow. When a plantain is yellow or green you fry or boil it. Some people make plantain chips at this stage. This is when its firm, thick, and less sweet. The plantain will sweeten as it ripens. When a plantain is peel-able and the skin feels less thick it will be black with some but little yellow left. This will be very sweet, easy to peel, and less dense.

In Cuban cuisine they also use an unripe plantain, it's called "tostones". They cut them into thick pieces, stomp them with the bottom of a cup and fry them and coat them with salt. They taste amazing!

In Indonesia, plaintain is called Horns Banana (Pisang Tanduk), bc it sorta look like the water buffalo's horns. It can be eaten as is when fully ripe, sweet, and soft. But definitely used more in cooked desert versions. Deep fried in batter, so good.

In my place Kerala, India we use plantains after the skin becomes a bit more black. We boil it and have it with breakfast/evening snack. Once it is very ripe, we make a batter and fry it in coconut oil. It's so yum😋😋
Also when the plantain is raw, we use it to make chips.
