Salvador Sánchez Narváez (January 26, 1959 – August 12, 1982) was a Mexican professional boxer born in the town of Santiago Tianguistenco, Estado de México. Sanchez was the WBC and lineal featherweight champion from 1980 to 1982. Many of his contemporaries as well as boxing writers believe that had it not been for his premature death, Sánchez could have gone on to become the greatest featherweight boxer of all time. Sánchez died on August 12, 1982 in a car accident from Querétaro to San Luis Potosí. He is also the uncle of Salvador Sánchez II.

In 1991, Sánchez was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The Ring magazine named both him, and Sugar Ray Leonard, as Fighter of the Year in 1981. In 2002, he was named the 24th greatest fighter of the past 80 years by The Ring magazine. In 2003, The Ring rated Sánchez number 88 on the list of 100 greatest punchers of all time. Sánchez was voted as the #3 featherweight of the 20th century by the Associated Press.

Just 23 years old when he left this world! Truly the most skilled fighter and best conditioned I ever saw!

Sanchez' greatest assets were 1.) His conditioning, he never seemed to be breathing, like a machine his mouth was always closed. 2.) His defense was remarkable, always knowing when to defend. 3.) His opportunist character; if he saw just a slight opening he took it and it usually scored. 4.) But his main asset was his God-given talent. To have all of these wrapped up in one human; what a complete athlete. And it was like he was his own manager in the ring; always studying his opponent; always thinking ahead like a chess player.

Absolutely. Sanchez was not a boxer. He was a martial artist. His technical Delivery of punches while smacking punches away instead of "compromising" the blow by absorbing it defensively was nothing short of first class.
This man was gifted and lethal.

I saw a short with Tyson describing this guy. Never heard of him. Mike said that no matter what level Sanchez' opponents had, Sanchez fought just above it. It's a brilliant tactic. The guy could throw for sure. (I didn't know he was a featherweight, holy cow. I had no sense of that at all, and his opponents took some serious shots. I clearly see how impressive this guy was.)
