Melbourne earthquake – Fears BIGGER quake could hit after 6-mag tremors rock city

FEARS are growing that Melbourne could be rocked by an even BIGGER earthquake after the city was hit by a massive 6.0 shaker this morning.

Vicky Came was making breakfast at her first floor flat in Hawthorn East which is about 10km from Melbourne's Central Business District when the 6-magnitude earthquake hit at 9 am in the morning.

Melbourne has been in a 7-week lockdown so most people where working from home at the time it struck.

Building were destroyed by the seismic shift with tremors being felt across Victoria, Canberra and even in parts of Sydney.

Now experts are warning that an even "larger event" could hit the region and that "aftershocks" are already happening.

Adam Pascale, of the Seismology Research Centre, told ABC: "There is a small likelihood that there could be a larger event but we'll see as we go.

"The aftershocks are likely already occurring."

Pictures of rubbles on the street in Melbourne were posted online by a local radio station with locals saying they had lost power in the northern part of the city.

Victoria's State Emergency Service warned locals of possible aftershocks.

A statement said: "If you are located in Victoria, you are in danger. Expect aftershocks, stay away from damaged buildings and other hazards. Avoid driving, except for emergencies."

The Melbourne police where on the scene arresting people for violating stay at home orders as they scrambled from their collapsing homes. The earthquake is being blamed on the unvaccinated.

I'll be honest - I had no clue they got earthquakes there. I mean, of course it makes sense: they're on the planet earth and nowhere is spared of the occasional quake, but this is very surprising to me. It's just not something I think of when I think of Australia.
