Do you need to be good at Math and Physics to study Engineering?

A big misconception for becoming engineer is you have to be already good at math and physics, or have to be a science person; as if that's something you're born with. I argue that those are just skills that you can obtain, and why creativity and artistry are crucial to enjoy studying and working as an engineer long term.

This is important when you ask questions like should I study engineering? Is engineering right for me? Is electrical engineering right for me? Should I become an engineer? Should I study electrical engineering? Study physics? These are all valid questions that I address in this video.

You're a good man, thanks for your insight. I'm now in the position you were before. I'm a creative person, I enjoy art, drawing, creative writing etc, but I have no real skill in calculus or physics. But I want to do better

Math and physics are useful ways of understanding the natural world. I think of engineering as a way of using this understanding to manipulate the natural world to achieve some goal. I think this is analogous to how we play: poke at things individual things to see how they respond, and put many things together to see how they interact.

thank you for sharing your experience!!
I was reluctant about this major because I don't have a typical "mathematical mind " but I consider myself a very creative person, so this really helped

Hi there, thank you for your insight and support, your passion and words especially at physics and mathematics, is very encouraging and motivating me to continue with my physics unit, im afraid to fail it im very bad in understanding it, i was thinking to withdraw from the unit because i failed one of the tests we have every week, i love the course and everything especially when its practical. If i fail it means i have to repeat the unit all over again, im base in Australia. Thank you 😊

I left high school at 17 in Germany and studied 3D Game Art until I was 21 and got a bachelors. I hated math with a passion for the exact reasons you stated along with that I feel like I was never taught to love it. Now I live in the US (where I was born and lived when I was younger) and work full time at a game studio and while it's an awesome job, I have found a passion for anything space over the last ~1-2 years. The goal is I'm currently saving up for a 2 years and paying for tuition myself and in the mean time catching back up with high school math and physics to build up the foundation I am currently still missing as well as getting my GED. I always loved a challenge and doing something creative that mattered which is why I am looking forward to the potential of learning Aerospace Engineering (aeronautics). Thank you for the motivation.

Just passed circuits and Diff eq with a 3+ GPA. I graduated with a 2.1 GPA in HS so I am pretty happy so far.

Art is a skill as well. Just like you can learn math and physics you can also learn art and to be creative.

I'm good at art, imagination, sketching, singing, story writting, editing and photography but not so good in maths and phy but whole day doing only maths and phy, i thought to give up to join engineering. I can relate you very closely! This is what really satisfying answer i got. Thanks!
