Great explanation! But the more detailed explanation is - The white light which emits from the sun is made up of 7 colours which can be remembered by the acronym VIBGYOR. In the spectrum, the lights of Violet, Indigo and blue have a wavelength smaller then the particles in the atmosphere so, these lights get Dispersed in all directions. As this dispersed light is which is mostly blue, falls on our eye, it makes us seem that the colour of the sky is blue.

The color of the sky is a phenomenon that has intrigued humans for centuries. On a clear day, the sky appears blue, but why is this the case? The answer lies in the way light interacts with Earth's atmosphere. The blue color of the sky is primarily the result of a process called Rayleigh scattering, which affects how sunlight interacts with the gases in the atmosphere.

The Nature of Sunlight
To understand why the sky appears blue, it's essential first to comprehend the composition of sunlight. Sunlight, or white light, is made up of a spectrum of colors, each with a different wavelength. These colors, from red to violet, are arranged in a spectrum, with red light having the longest wavelengths and violet light having the shortest. When sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, it interacts with the particles and molecules that make up the air, such as nitrogen, oxygen, and water vapor.

Rayleigh Scattering
Rayleigh scattering, named after British scientist Lord Rayleigh, describes the scattering of light by particles that are much smaller than the wavelength of the light. In the Earth's atmosphere, nitrogen and oxygen molecules are the primary scatterers. When sunlight enters the atmosphere, the shorter wavelengths of light—blue and violet—are scattered more than the longer wavelengths, like red and yellow. The reason for this is that shorter wavelengths interact more with the molecules in the atmosphere and are scattered in all directions.

Although violet light is scattered even more than blue light, the sky does not appear violet to human observers. This is because our eyes are more sensitive to blue light than violet light. Additionally, some of the violet light is absorbed by the upper atmosphere, further diminishing its presence. As a result, the scattering of blue light predominates, and the sky appears blue to us during the day.

The Role of the Atmosphere
The Earth's atmosphere is composed of a mixture of gases, water vapor, and other particles that contribute to scattering. However, Rayleigh scattering is most effective in the lower atmosphere, where the air density is highest. This is why the sky looks bluer closer to the horizon and can shift in color as the day progresses, especially at sunrise and sunset.

During sunrise and sunset, the sunlight has to pass through a greater thickness of the atmosphere because of the angle at which it strikes the Earth. This longer path causes the blue and violet light to scatter out of the direct line of sight, leaving the longer wavelengths, such as red, orange, and yellow, to dominate the color of the sky. This is why sunsets and sunrises often appear in warm hues like red, pink, and orange.

Why Not Green or Purple?
Given that Rayleigh scattering affects the entire visible spectrum of light, one might wonder why the sky is not green or purple. The answer lies in both human perception and the physical properties of light scattering. Our eyes are not as sensitive to the green or purple parts of the spectrum, and, as mentioned earlier, the violet light is absorbed by the atmosphere. Additionally, the scattering process is not perfectly uniform, and the blue wavelengths are most effectively scattered, making blue the dominant color seen in the sky.

Conclusion
The blue color of the sky is a result of the complex interaction between sunlight and Earth's atmosphere. Rayleigh scattering causes shorter wavelengths of light, particularly blue, to scatter in all directions, making the sky appear blue to human observers. The dynamic behavior of light, along with our visual sensitivity and atmospheric conditions, combine to create this everyday yet extraordinary phenomenon. Understanding why the sky is blue not only explains a simple observation of nature but also provides insight into the intricate ways light and matter interact in our environment.

Who else thought, when they were younger, that the water was already blue and the light reflected that color into the sky, making it blue?
