Quinn - My goodness, that is some tricky work with sheetmetal, indeed! Nevertheless, in spite of having to re-make a part, it came out quite well in the end. It's always wonderful that you share both your challenges and your successes with us!

That’s great work Quinn, looking brill. I’m sure Kozo would not give away all the secrets or show what went wrong. In order to help me with card templates I joined our local Origami Club, they welcomed me into the fold. stay well.

Beautiful work on the Coal Bunker, Quinn! Nice clean work with very clear explanation and description of your work. You are amazing at this. I had to do the coal bunker twice. My first one came out slightly cockeyed and I knew I wouldn't be happy with it. My second one came out so much better.

There's a TON of work in this part. You are able to complete these major assemblies very quickly. It took me weeks of work to do it the first time and just slightly less the second. I have no clue how you can complete these high-quality, complex parts every week, complete with narrated video (excellent narration too!) You truly have a gift for making things and for teaching. Thanks for sharing it with us!

Another benefit of Dykem over marker is that it's possible to scribe a clear line in Dykem while leaving a much shallower mark in the underlying metal.

As an old man who almost became a tool & die maker in the 1970s I must say your craftsmanship is simply incredible. And…. you know how to read an analog calipers! Wow!

Thank you for sharing your work. I admire your tenacity as much as your work itself.

Great episode!! I do have one suggestion for you. When silver soldering you need the heat that map gas provides. However when doing soft solder or 95/5. You can do that with propane. Less heat and it will stop your burning the flux and give you a nicer joint. I’m not a machinist. Just an old refrigeration technician.
Thanks

At 11:02 you mention the distance is 2" (which means you can use a 1-2-3 block!) but are using the 3" side of the 1-2-3 block.

Quinn, as a 1st year apprentice (57 years ago) we were taught that when bending sheet metal or thicker bar stock, we had to calculate how much extra length was required to make the bend. The Bend Allowance formula used a) degrees of bend b) radius of bend and c) thickness of material. You will have to look it up as I can't remember it now, but it basically calculates the length required at the centre of the material as you bend it - a slightly larger radius. In the case of your hoops with the thickness of the brass bar that is why your piece ended up being too short. I admire your skills and instruction ability. From Downunder.

I've had days like this. Just remember, by the time you get the project done properly, then you're an expert!

Nice job, I would have needed 3 of each part to get it correct. Thanks for taking us along 👍.

Nice recovery on the "too short" trim piece.
