Thank you so much for this great review. I really liked how you picked comparison categories that are important for so many of us.

I do agree on there should be the option to turn off the dedicated video card on the X1 to save power, not just disable it.

A few Differences you didn't mention in your comparison.

Max storage on Legion is 2TB in 2 drives, Extreme 8TB in 2 drives.
Max memory in Legion is 32 GB in 2 sticks, Extreme 64 GB in 2 sticks .

Not sure if Legion will handle higher storage and memory if user installed.

2 great machines

In my opinion Legion 5s/5 Pros are definitely worth getting if you can handle the extra weight; my Legion 5 3070ti manages crazy performance and can get 10+ hours of battery life on the iGPU mode

I absolutely love the "game console"-like design of Legions where most of the ports are on the back side, makes it feel like the laptop is permantently hooked to a docking station which is pretty cool

Wish some ThinkPads had that design

What about construction? Which one is physically more durable in terms of material, hinges, corners, keyboard/trackpad...?

Always go for the bulkier one unless portability is your top priority. Otherwise, you get best bang for your buck and better performance with the bulkier one. Slims and ultraportables always come with huge drawbacks for usability and performance.

I upgraded to a Legion, after 10 years of thinkpads, i was really annoyed by the limited amount of ports in the latest thinkpad, i use the laptop for work and i have 3 monitors, keyboard, mouse, camera and a microphone, with the thinkpad it's literally impossible to connect even half of my peripherals, while the Legion, despite being cheaper and a gaming laptop, can connect everything and even has few free type c ports for other stuff that i might need to plug in.

You're comparing business corporate vs consumer grade product here. That Thinkpad, doesn't make any sense for any individuals, but for bulk corporate purchasing, with so many warranty & management services, it will serve you well. That legion will be troublesome to be managed by IT dept. That's why it's so expensive

The way Ben G sticks his tongue out @ 4:14, is the same way I look at anything Lenovo!. Best laptop hands down!.

Also, it would be really helpful to compare the performance between the Legion 5i Pro and a similar Legion tower/desktop to get a better understanding of what you can expect when deciding to go from the tower/desktop to the laptop.

Can you do a gaming performance between the two?

What you have not spoken in your review is durability of the thingpat. For me is one of the most important future. I had my think pat 7 years an since 2 I am back packing with it. And during this 7 years I had to repair it only 2 times once 1 year ago and now second. I look for laptop will give me this 5 years of problem free usage. Can you compare it to the legion?

I have one of each. Legion 7i Pro with a 240 Hz IPS panel and an X1 Extreme gen 2, which is currently being upgraded to a gen 6 P1 (2023 model, the spiritual successor of the X1 Extreme line which has been discontinued) with a 165 Hz IPS panel. Each one is a pleasure to use, but the Legion is tangibly faster and quieter for gaming, although it is substantially thicker and heavier. Legion Pro has a keyboard with the numpad, whereas the P1/X1E don't. Which layout you prefer is a personal preference. I personally don't mind either way.

You are not speak about durability. This is why one buys thinkpad, you can spill the water, drop the laptop and it works years... Normal lenovo It's known that it's breaks a lot.

I’m confused if they have the same CPU and GPU why are the numbers so different? Is it due the battery wattage or the cooling?
