I normally like doing the easier repairs to avoid being overcharged by repair shops. I was watching other videos and I gotta tell ya that it was looking a bit complicated. I had to take too many things apart and may miss or break something on the way. I was really thinking of paying for it to get done UNTIL I saw your video. Thank you for the information. You gave me hope that I have this in the bag. This is going to mark my 5th repair I've done on my own & I have guys like you to thank!! 👍

I know this is an old video, and I never comment on YouTube channels, but I really have to thank you for an amazing video! I just walked in the house from fixing our starter on the 2002 Accord Ex V6 sedan. My wife helped me by holding the starter, using her little hands where my big hands couldn't go, etc. Woow!! Honda quoted us $900 yesterday, then I found your video. We paid $167 for the part and they will give us $10 for the old one. It took me over an hour due to stubborn bolts and other challenges. What a

I was going to tow my girlfriends' car to a repair shop and pay them big bucks to do this, but after watching this video, I purchased the starter myself, swapped it out and had the car running in half an hour.  Thanks!

Awesome video! It really helped me replace my starter.
My tips... I had an immensely difficult time getting the bottom bolt off the old starter. The biggest pain is that it's hard to access. I first used some socket extensions, but was just not able to get enough leverage.
I eventually ended up taking the radiator fan out (which gave a little more room but not enough), then I disassembled the old starter. It has 2 long bolts that hold the motor on, then there are 3 screws for the gear connection. These were all surprisingly easy to remove. After I had disassembled the entire starter unit inside my car, I could take the pieces out and that gave plenty of room to access the bottom bolt.
Unfortunately, access wasn't enough. This thing was STUCK...
The bottom bolt is about 6" long (whereas the top is maybe 2... this fact shouldn't make much of a difference, but it's worth noting that). I ended up bending a couple wrenches in the process. What worked finally was using a screw driver at the point where the top bolt was (it was removed already) to pry open a small gap where I sprayed some silicone lubricant (only kind I had handy). I then joined a few wrenches together to get about 2 feet of moment arm and it eventually moved! Believe me, that was a happy part of my day.
New unit install was very easy. Car started first try.
The symptoms I had been experiencing were a single click at the starter with a quiet electrical whine but no engine turn whatsoever. Over the last week, I had been getting no starter engagement until a few tries in, but yesterday it was no go whatsoever. I tried "jumping" the starter motor with a screwdriver - got a spark but no start. Also tried jumping the car (though I was convinced the battery was good).
Due to the pain of removal, I'd recommend against a junk yard starter. It was my first choice, but I didn't have cash when I showed up this morning and their credit card machine broke so I took my credit card to Autozone and bought new. $90 difference but my car starts now, so whatever.

Great video. Took me about an hour and a half. Couldn't get that damn hose disconnected. I ended up breaking the clip. Somebody else mentioned it was nice calling out the socket/wrench sizes. Saved me a trip back to Oreillys for a 17 mm socket. I saw another video where the guy took out the whole battery compartment. Glad I didn't do that. I don't think it would have made much difference getting to the bolts so it saved time just to leave it in there. Starts like a champ now. Thanks for the video.

The starter layout is on right side, same as yours. Although, you have more space to work with. I replaced the starter this morning, thanks to your video man!!!
