I first had rice with cream of mushroom soup about 50 years ago, when I was a 5 yo kid in Taiwan and my dad, who had served with the US Air Force and visited the US, made it on a family beach trip. I loved it, and when we eventually moved to the US and I learned to cook for myself, I tried making the dish many times and could ever get it to the consistency or taste that I remembered, and my dad and I didn't turn out to be close before he died, and I never asked how he made it and he never made it again from what I remember after that beach trip. I'm a pretty competent home cook these days and even went to chef school for a while before dropping out, and it never occurred to me to use COOKED rice and just mix the cream of mushroom soup in. I've finally learned the secret to one of my earliest and fondest food memories, from that family beach trip into Fulong, Taiwan, 50 years ago. Thank you.

I am from Savannah, Georgia. MeMe you remind me so much of my grandmother, literally! We always had Sunday dinner at my grandmother's house, just like you! My grandmother is 91 and in a nursing home now. She broke her hip and is no longer mobile! The great thing is she taught me at a young age how to cook just like her. The ingredients are important of course, but the MOST IMPORTANT INGREDIENTS TO MIX IN - IS LOVE AND A GRATEFUL HEART FOR JESUS AND FAMILY! Sending blessings to your family from mine.

On rare occasion do I find a channel on YouTube that is conveying information I feel I need to write down but this is one! I am so glad I found this channel! My great aunt used to make some of these recipes and never left us her recipes. These taste like my childhood! Women like Meme are the backbone of their families and their communities. So much selfless work and dedication. The amount of work and expense for that Sunday buffet, all for the love of family. Thanks so much for these recipes. Now my kids get to enjoy some of the foods my Aunt Nellie made and I grew up on.

I never had a grandmother relationship - they both passed when I was very young & they were very old. I’m trying to be the grandmother I never had. You are just precious and your cooking inspires me. Thank you!

MeMe, firstly can I say you have a beautiful kitchen.

I am from England, & it is wonderful to get meal ideas from different people from all over the world.

As a lover of pork chops I can see this going down very, very well once it is cooked up.

It also inspires me to use other meats like chicken legs or breasts - the possibilities are endless.

Your side dishes could feed an army!

I am from North West England, so we are used to your portion sizes.

MeMe, thank you for sharing your cooking skills, your kitchen and the extra special gift you have - your beautiful accent.

I would listen attentively to you reading the phone book!

God bless MeMe to you & your family and friends.

Thank you.

David.

Way back in the 70’s I made pork chops, or chicken and rice with mushroom or cream of celery soup, didn’t cook any of it in advance, I just put it in the oven right before we left for church, we were back home in a little over an hour and our dinner was ready to serve. I don’t do many casseroles anymore because I just don’t like the taste of any canned soup, and almost every one of my older recipes calls for canned soup. I do remember those casseroles were always so good, and so easy to make.

I just love her accent and her way of explaining her steps…can’t wait to try this recipe. She reminds me of the people from the “greatest generation “ who I deeply admire. My neighbor, who I adored, Ms Emily Highnote passed away a week ago and she was a true Southern Lady like this person. Ms Emily’s nephews write Steel Magnolias and played the part of the preacher in the movie, and Ms Emily had a very small part. I grew up outside of Atlanta and am very proud of my Southern Heritage…thank you for sharing and keeping great memories alive. 😊

My mom cooked her pork chops with just salt & pepper & then would add mushroom soup to the pan she cooked the chops in & scrape up the brown bits. She would add water rather than the milk & then add the mushroom sauce over the rice with the chop on top & home grown vegetables on the side, so yummy😋

I make chops & rice for my wife very often. We love it. A garden salad included makes it a wonderful meal.

I’m 64 years old. My Mother and all of her family is or was from South Carolina. This is without a doubt the food that I remember. From garden to table. Spectacular food. They never used canned anything. It was always homemade.
