Cheekface – Pledge Drive (lyric video)

Video by Lenore Melo

I am living in an extra large box
It’s a nice big house with a TV/VCR
Where rats are eating all my earthly possessions
I called the pledge drive. I got the suicide hotline

Life’s little moments in an extra large box
Courting controversy in an esoteric field
Why don’t the police ever obey the law?
I don’t know anything. You don’t know anything

Statistically likely to be wearing a shirt
A shirt so white and starched you could spill coffee on it
Statistically likely to be trying to stay hydrated (but not that hydrated)
No one is mad at me
No one is mad at me
No one is mad at me
No one is mad at me

If woke dudes must die, I’ll go first
I don’t know anything. You don’t know anything
If we must dumpster dive, I’ll go first
I don’t know anything. You don’t know anything
And if you think youth has been wasted on the young and the wasted
And so now one of us has to die, I’ll go first
I don’t know anything. You don’t know anything

I am a supergrain, I’m native to Peru
I thrive in the elevations of the Andes mountain range
I am arguably ruining the environment and the local economy
And you can substitute me for bulgur wheat

This mob of teens with sponges is ready to wash your car
I’m standing in the Wendy’s drive-thru screaming “FUCK ALL THE TRANSPHOBES”
I feel nothing and I’m 14-inches tall
I don’t know anything. You don’t know anything

I'm interpreting the entire song as being written from the perspective of quinoa, not just the 1st half of the 2nd verse.

Just popped up on my Spotify one day and instantly fell in love and had to check out the whole discography. On surface level, reminiscent of Cake, but in depth and in content this is so fresh and new. Please keep doing this.

so I found this band through a deltarune pmv for "you always wanna bomb the middle east" and I was listening to this album thinking "heck yeah this is weird and energetic, I dig this", and then I heard "I'm standing in the Wendy's drive-thru screaming "FUCK ALL THE TRANSPHOBES"" and dang y'all just got bumped up in this trans gal's estimations even higher

Quinoa is not as good as this song, but better that bulgur wheat. In terms of substance.

I have family who uses the idea of “nobody really knows anythings” to justify political stances like transphobia and anti CRT. Ik people are dumb (myself included), but idk if it’s a good idea to spread the coping tactic to people who’s level of ignorance is invading the rights and happiness of others. Such a strange, tricky line the band is trying to walk with this message, but I oddly still love that they’re walking it at all.

Can we all stop and laugh for a moment at the liberal cheering of the song. . Just sayin
