For those having a hard time seeing the scores due to YouTube's annoying text while pausing:
Scenes of less action: Linux 96fps, Win 92fps, FreeBSD 102fps
Scenes of heavy action: Linux 87fps, Win 82fps, FreeBSD 96fps

For what it's worth, Windows is just an OS pushed to the public for its "click and go" experience + some unwanted bloat.. It ain't terrible.
Linux is variable, depending on the distro, it comes bundled with different things that create a similar experience with less bloat.
FreeBSD is bare bones as much as you wish. Just install TinyWM (window manager) and some essentials like audio (pulse if you prefer that), and your display (xf86 for intel onboard, or nvidia for dedicated, or whatever AMD uses, it's been a while). You don't even need a desktop environment like xfce or gnome, just play as is and enjoy the frames.

How did you manage to find a game that no one's ever heard of to test?

I have always loved Unix systems. Now that games are more playable, I may go back to it.

Dude! Playing games on FreeBSD is bonkers. I never thought I'd see anyone give it a try. Thanks for an interesting video!

More FPS on the BSD system, but to be fair, in BSD the GPU % was higher all the time than linux or windows, thats why the FPS was always higher too.

this is unfair Zorin OS, is not a proper distro for gaming on Linux, you could at least have gone with something like pop os or arch linux, nobara, pikaos but ZorinOS.. come on dude..

Interesting... I am playing games any more, that was about 30 years ago. And I was surprised that FreeBSD and Wine was running Unreal (I think it was that) quite fine - at that days :-) Cheers, Norbert

I have been playing starfield on KDE Debian linux using steam and proton. It seems really stable most of the time, recently a few crashes after updates, but they seem to clear up, have not had any in the past few days.

I use GhostBSD and MX Linux, but I feel more fluent in BSD, I don't know why.

The FreeBSD version has artifacts and seems to be slower than the rest. Linux comes second and Windows has the best experience. Linux and Windows are unnoticeable unless they are put side by side, but the FreeBSD version is noticeably "slow" and the artifacts are very clear.

Nonetheless, It's still impressive, and I wonder what happens with games that run natively on Linux and FreeBSD!

Linux for the win also because the Vulkan precache works great ;)

windows will always be the best as its the most used software
and therefore the more optimized one.

windows gpu usage was 20% less than linux in ur tests shown

Me: i use gentoo because bsd doesn't do gaming
And now you just proved it and another youtuber proved me it is now possible.

I'm still waiting for valve to make a move with bsd so i will install openbsd since freebsd is always broken and not openbsd

So Windows wins again... no surprise ... linux is not made for the desktop or games
