FreeBSD Vs. Linux

FreeBSD is probably superior in almost every way to Linux, but not everything runs on it, and it doesn't run on all Hardware. I view it as the Mac OS of the Linux world.

Linus Torvalds said in 1993: "If 386BSD had been available when I started on Linux, Linux would probably never have happened."

He's using a Windows computer in the background, that's enough for me.

@Revollti - FreeBSD users use FreeBSD because they love BSD. They don't hate Linux. Linux users love Linux because they hate Windows. FreeBSD users tend to be professionals and serious hobbyists. I've never found that forum unhelpful to anyone.

Talking about FreeBSD vs Linux and you have a windows computer in the background... funny!

I'm sorry but this is saying nothing. Where's the live demo?

I don't get how freeBSD will run "faster" as Gentoo, or Socerer Linux, p.e. Both compile all the packages and optimize them for the computer is running. However, I am about to get an old laptop, and I'll try it there, so I can know

I stopped using FBSD and went to NetBSD for a few local servers as my upgrades to the server didnt always like the upgrades unless A. was originally compiled for it as 8yrs ago I would sometimes have to re-compile kernels and if you've done it, you understand why we went to Solaris than now to CentOS but the pre-solaris machines weren't UltraSparx/II Procs, endes up selling the HP servers using BSD and paid out the butt for at the time, Sun Micro UltraSparcII Procs @ 350MHz/Ea?

Macs are more stable?! I've never seen a platform that can spontaneously self destruct faster than OSX. Permissions go awry for no reason, the volume bitmap develops errors, the general filesystem goes completely fubar without any rhyme or reason and applications just seem to fail at the drop of a hat. In all my years of running Windows and Linux, I've never encountered the sheer number of problems that I have to deal with when faced with OSX based machines which I have been servicing and fixing for the past 8 years or so. Which, of course, are descended from BSD.

I don't have much confidence in BSD. I'll stick with Linux.

Haiku is a desktop platform with scheduling preference given to UI processes. FreeBSD is a computing platform that treats all processes equally. I have used, but never developed for, Haiku. Its indexed filesystem is pretty sweet but I have a suspicion that the inter-process communication is pretty weak.

GPL as written says any derived work or inspired work. If you see a feature in a GPL software and want to create it, having installed, (and therefore agreed to the GPL license) could limit your development of a similar or competing product. This was a big part of why Linus broke from GPL after V2

You speak of FreeBSD and Linux but you say Node.js is stupid? smh...

Nope. GNU is the os & is of UNIX. Linux is just the kernel.

What exactly is wrong with FreeBSD? If you get the GNU tools from ports, it's hard to tell any difference at all.

OS X is based upon the Mach kernel. Certain parts from FreeBSD's and NetBSD's implementation of Unix were incorporated in NeXTSTEP, the core of Mac OS ...

What is BSD?
Please do a video on that (maybe comparing to something most people who know)

i think you can easily find the answer to your own question. there are many articles and videos explaining where FreeBSD is used and why. eg: medical imaging, web-servers, corporate office servers, virtualisation.
