How To Add Exclusions For Windows Defender In Windows 10

In this tutorial I will show you guys how to set Windows Defender to start or stop monitoring certain files, processes or file types. If you trust software that Windows Defender has detected, you can stop Windows Defender from alerting you to risks that the software might pose to your privacy or your computer. To stop being alerted, you need to add the software to the Windows Defender allowed list. If you decide that you want to monitor the software again later, you can remove it from the Windows Defender allowed list at any time.

If you trust a file that Windows Defender has detected as malicious, you can stop Windows Defender from alerting you or blocking the program by adding the file to the exclusions list.

2018 UPDATE: You can see this setting in the Windows Defender app itself, in the settings in the bottom left corner, and not in the Settings app anymore. :)

I have somewhere a Blocked file, every time I try to download it it gets removed immediately. Have you any idea how to navigate there to stop it from doing it?

dude my menu is totally different. I think Microsoft changed them after an update and to top it off now the exception option is nowhere to be found

if its saying steam if offline its because your windows defender is blocking the stp file during installation..turn off the antivirus before starting installation..after installing add the whole F1 folder to your exception list in order to prevent windows from scanning it

For excluding a process (bottom option), do you need to specify the full path, or just the EXE filename?

I cannot find the “manage settings” link anywhere. When I click “virus and threat protection” it takes me to a different looking page with no option anywhere to change settings. The only thing I see is “Microsoft defender antivirus options” and when I click that it only gives an option to do periodic scanning.

Update: think I figured it out. So for some reason on mine when you click virus and threat protection you have to go down and click “open app”. When that opens click the tiny settings icon in bottom left corner and then select “exceptions” in the drop down box on the left. From there just select the file you want to exclude

for me it says "You dont have proper permission to view this page" can you tell how to fix that?

I excluded Windows Defender itself from being scanned because it was giving me 100% disk use....When I excluded it everything went back to normal.
