My knives get abused badly on the farm.honestly, sometimes I have to thoroughly scrub them with hot soapy water and rinse well. That's why I don't edc my expensive knives anymore. Case sod buster. Cold steel recon

I disassemble and clean with soap and water. Dry, and use Rem Oil for lubrication. Been doing this for years and it works great

Any knife that I have the potential to use for food prep is going to get a cleaning with high concentrated isopropyl alcohol on a cotton ball. Don't have to worry about getting any of it in the pivot because it'll simply evaporate quickly.

A hair dryer works great for getting any residual water dried up

If you have to wash a pocket knife, wash as needed, dry as much as possible, then return it to pocket. Body heat will help eliminate moisture.

100% isopropyl is safer. If you go with the 70% sold in drug stores, the other 30% is water and can leave splotches on your blade.
I learned that the hard way when I first started collecting knives.
I have a few blades that I only wiped once or twice with regular rubbing alcohol and there are drop stains on the blades now.
If you do use regular rubbing alcohol, I recommend wiping a small amount of mineral oil on the blade afterwards.

Even better than isopropyl alcohol is mineral spirits. It's petroleum based I believe so no need to worry about stains and it evaporates quickly like isopropyl.
Leaves a nicer shine on the blade too.

And separately, mineral oil is great for bringing out deep colour and shine in wood/plastic knife scales. Don't overdo it though, just a light coating.

I usually use hair dryer if I clean my pocket knives after food prep to get rid of that trapped moisture.
For tape residue some sort of mineral oil (I use the sewing machine oil — cheap, can be found in any home stuff shops) works wonders. Couple of drop on cotton disc, wipe the residue off, then wash with water or alcohol and voila

Wash the bearings with hot flowing water, give it a good shake, hairdry it if not stainless, and put a drop of oil in it, action restored, knife cleaned.
