My first electric guitar was a ’79 LP Custom. I had worked for quite some time in a local factory during school vacations and when I had saved enough money me and my dad drove to the music store in the big city. I wanted to buy a Hamer Special cause it was all I could afford. My dad asked the sales guy about that shiny brand new black Les Paul Custom on the wall and I quickly intervened as it was much too expensive. But to my surprise my old man, who used to hate rock music and electric guitars, just answered „Don’t worry son, I‘ll pay the rest!“ I just couldn’t believe it, but I walked out of the shop with my absolute dream guitar. When we drove home I opened the case every few minutes just to look at it. It was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen and it was the happiest day of my live. My dad passed away last year at the age of 85. It hasn’t always been easy with us but in the end everything was good. I have owned too many guitars to remember and have a nice collection of vintage and Custom Shop pieces. But that old Les Paul Custom is still around and is my most valuable treasure. Every time I pick it up I remember that special day with my dad. I‘m so grateful for the time we had. There’s not a single day that I don’t think about him. I miss you dad!

It’s nice to hear someone appreciate the norlin era. I just got a great condition 79 standard in wine red and it’s amazing. I love the heavy feel, volute, and 1 piece body. It’s a quirky les Paul but I love it.

Love the Norlin era Gibsons with their quirks and idiosyncrasies. Especially the veloutes! Recently acquired a 1970 ES-335 and it sounds so sweet it's heartbreaking. Nowhere near the condition yours is in though, but has that played-in mojo. Congrats & Maximum Respect for working hard and living the dream mate! 🤜🤛

I've been wanting a 79 custom for most of my guitar playing life, 20 years. I am a huge Tool/Adam Jones fan. I must say, that custom is incredibly beautiful! I thought it was a reissue at first cause it looks brand new! 12 pounds is unreal! Haha! My 60s style standard is over 10 pounds and I thought that was ridiculous! That's a real piece of music history and art! It's something to cherish and enjoy for your entire life! The fact you worked so hard to save up for it is really cool too! You literally earned it and that's something special too! Anyway, congrats man! Enjoy it!

I know the feeling of having your dream guitar. I’m very happy for you and I’m glad that you have it.

I'm slightly older than that guitar, and I finally just got my Les Paul Custom (dream guitar) a few months ago as well, after wanting one for over 25 years. Same feelings about damaging it, but any regrets I had left after playing it without worrying about any scratches or dings. Enjoy that beauty for years!

i’ve said it a thousand times and i’ll say it a thousand more, YOUR NEW GUITAR IS SO GORGEOUS!!! it’s totally understandable you’re wary about playing it tho. maybe putting a soft blanket over your clothes while playing will help with that anxiety? you’re so gentle with your guitars tho that i find it hard to imagine you could ruin it

Love it...I have a couple of Epiphones. A '59 Les Paul and a Jarod James Nichols Gold Glory with big fat necks...Have fun, that is very nice!

That’s a gorgeous LP! The maple neck on that will actually be more resilient to cracks breaks since it’s just a much harder wood too. The cork sniffers will say it adds a more chimy/ trebly tone however I really don’t get that deep into the tonewood thing personally. The Tributes also come with maple necks and the tone ( to me ) is all about the pickups /shrug. Good luck with that beaut man, if you’re planning to gig with an LP I’d probably get a less expensive version too, just to keep that one as nice as it is. The back of that thing is awesome and the ‘no pick guard’ also throws that nice burst out at ya that much more imo, best of luck with it! ( ya I know this videos been out a few months but I just seen it now obviously 🤣 ).

I totally agree with your decision to save up and buy the one you really want, (I have a 2003 in wine red and really wish it was tobacco sunburst as well) When you buy something you really want they say you only cry once and that is when you pay for it, when you settle for something you cry forever.

Congrats on landing your dream guitar. It sounds like you worked your butt off for it, play the heck out of it, don't sweat the small stuff, they charge 1000s extra for that now a days ;)

I’m new to your channel and really like it. I was planning on saving for a les Paul standard 50s, but now I’m thinking about buying a norlin era Les Paul standard.
