I've been in the repair business (owning a repair shop) since 2012 and i feel like adding my own experience to your conclusion.... I think there is actually a difference between fixing your own phone at home or really talking about smartphone reparability at a larger scale (business side). iPhone used to be much easier to repair back in the days, but since at least 4-5 years, Samsung made their phone much, MUCH easier to repair (starting with S8 series). Just by the fact that you can buy 100% original parts (Service Pack) from authorized Samsung distributors without being an authorized Samsung repair center (as long as you have a valid repair business), this is a game changer for a repair business. If you just want to fix your own screen, iPhone might be cheaper (if you use an aftermarket screen)... But try to change a charging port or a back glass for exemple... MUCH easier / affordable on a Samsung ! Regarding that, i think Samsung are way more repairable than iPhone...

Having DIY repaired iPhones and Samsungs, I'd rather do another 20 minutes of work to replace the screen than have my iPhone tell me the screen isn't a genuine part.

Apple have always been against repairs, Samsung has always been a bit more open to it. Apple is being forced to make their Iphones more repairable, tbh I think I'll wait for a little bit to give Apple some time to add more ways to repair the Iphone

imma be honest, I think samsung has to take the W here, not all samsung parts are expensive, and virtually nothing is married to the board. I have an S9 that I have repaired multiple times (excluding the display) all the parts, including charging port is cheap to buy, and very modular. even the fingerprint scanner on the back can be replaced without having any issues. that being said, the fact that apple put so much effort into preventing you from attempting repair, should have given them an automatic L.

Fun fact: Samsung actually mentioned repairability IN THEIR LAUNCH EVENT for the s23 series!!!

I dunno man. To me replacing a screen or any component should mean the device returns to full functionality. In that instance Apple takes a solid loss 100% of the time.

#4 is the real world deal breaker. Every day i have walk ins for both iPhones and Samsungs and the Samsung prices are so high even for older phones it’s absurd. They are absolutely more repairable in terms of no software blocks but 80% of clients won’t do it if they can get a used one on marketplace for less than a aftermarket screen costs your store.

Maintenance mode is useless when you send the phone to them. They factory reset my phone when they replaced the screen. I was expecting not having to re install everything... Insurance covered it at least.

Edit: good video.

Hello Phone Repair Guru, I feel like it’s been a minute since I have seen one of your videos. I have an iphone and going to the Apple store to ask questions or to get it repaired seems always to be a hassle. Or really really ridiculously expensive, even with AppleCare, which in itself is super expensive. Anyhow, I have an iPhone 13 which so far so great, I enjoy it.
Love, love your videos so much

ive seen alot of phones with bent frames and so far thats a plus on samsung when you fix the screan you can easily change the frame aswell and apple on the other hand is a pain to change frames and back glass

Actually in south east asia, samsung will win in price section, because we have so many aftermarket and pretty cheap too. But i guess things kinda different in canada 😁😁

Apple should give genuine repair shops a way to remove those software messages, and bring back features

Those software messages help with user safety, but it’s also hostile to users who want to repair their devices themselves

There should be a gray area

even though iPhones are more complicated to repair due to all the different screws and software messages I must say that it is the best phone to repair. Reason is that only iPhone has a lot of parts available online unlike Samsung. A good competitor for repair is Fairphone but that one is literally made to be repaired. For me part availability and pricing is more important than how easy it is to repair. Technically there is nothing to compare.

I'd say Samsung takes the price win as well- since you don't need to buy tools to reprogram parts, and potentially go to Apple for a 500 dollar single part replacement if said service is unavailable to the aftermarket yet.

I really enjoy your videos but I've noticed that your comment section is always almost like a warzone. Its quite different from other Tech YouTubers where comments usually have a very valid points to their argument or trying to correct a mistake or assumption about a device. Its not quite as bad in your long form videos but it's kinda sad😢 seeing just how much it is the shorts. I love your videos and would love for this channel to grow. I dream of making tech videos as well since I enjoy them so much

i have done several samsung screen repairs from the front, I'm pretty sure you don't need to take off the back and midframe from the screen replacement, making it easier than the iphone
