Hey Chris,
I too was unfamiliar with patching.
But on failed patches you just read the rej file and voila. Usually the failed patches are due to the patches not finding the matching lines exactly because, you had modified the lines above or added a few lines above it. Or modified the line it's looking for.

Once you understand that, it's not so bad...

Although I do find the system tray is needed.

Love your talks and practical perspective on things. If I would have known who you were sooner I would have subscribed sooner I had subscribed a couple days ago and what channel is very good stuff you have an awesome Saturday.

Honestly, for me it's the other way around. I'm a lot more confused by the typical WM configuration then by DWM. Sure, its actual code, but only < 10k lines of code of C90. This is probably more of a split between people who program and people who do more sysadmin stuff, since I am much more intimidated by the typical config file, and how I could get things wrong there (especially if there is no validator or other equivalents to compiler errors / warnings)

The only thing i personally dislike is the default look, since I'm personally more a light theme kind of person (go on, fight me) and find the default KDE theme nice for that reason etc, so I'm currently thinking about rewriting the whole thing in Odin and theming it, idk if I come to it but it might be worth it, I'm currently stuck on redesigning st (also not that nice code imo, but given the size it's much more doable to rewrite it than other codebases)

DWM is the best, I have endevour OS with plasma and i3 (in case I need repair) and I switched to DWM again. It is so fast and clear in my opinion - code is not long so anybody can change it and patches are a little messy but it can be done and there are many tutorials.

The problem with dwm is the same problem with a lot of linux Stuff. No sane defaults. give us a patch with everything a random new user needs, because i have never used it, of course i have no idea what patches to use. it asked you to make expert decisions before you have even used it. And as a window manager, if dont know how to use it you cannot even easilly google search for help while using it.

Tried many windows managers, but sitting on dwm for the last 2 years on both desktops.
6.4 is even easier to compile patches, kind of too boring, almost working out of box.
It took me under 30 minutes to compile 14 patches and I am not C programmer by any means.

Why would/should I learn a programming language just to use DWM? I really don't understand.
Can anyone tell me the answer? This is also for my wife, so...
"Well, it's almost like 'a programming language I don't know' shit about'"... Yay me... I better stay in pre-school and let the big boys do their thing. Welcome to why Ubunti is popular, you helped with this. And confirming it as well. Not everybody has the privelige of time. Time to sit and config things in a new language. I bet your Swedish is not up to scratch either, let's see you do it in a weekend!
I know enough to know that I son't know stuff, been around since Debian Potato, remember that? But why do everyone keep things behind covers? "Just download my file" is not the right way to do it, at least I think so.
Not nagging at you personally, my friend. It's just frustrating converting others to Linux when the atmosphere is rather much like a basement/cellar and a whole lot of "You do it, I did it"... And why is Linux not on the desktop? Because elitist thinking, not much welcoming! Ubuntu helped a lot, and then everyone started hating them, and for no good reason. They make their things, and "real Linux users" hate it. That really helps /s.
A "how-to" helps, but that doesn't brings any viewers... I try to help with translations, that's what I know. I still think Linux is the best option, but I need some better alternatives than KDE, Gnome, XFCE. Still not telling you that you should do it, just that we have a problem.
An openbox distro? That's be Arch or an old version of Debian. Or Fedora. Learn a new system! Learn a new language! Says the English speaking community.
I've had it up to here with that. And it's not your fault.
You want more users? Stop sitting behind your desk and talk to users and future users! "Just change the .config-file that's hidden inside a folder we won't tell you about, because we know where it is! Why don't you learn. RTFM, asshole, and welcome to our community!"

Great opinions but wtf is DWM? I know this is from a livestream but I'm missing context and this doesn't make sense to me why this is a cut clip on the channel. Love the rest of your content though. <3
