I enjoy this technical explanation of the sport more than watching FPs, if I'm honest 😅

Nice one Sam, you and Jolyon make the nuances of F1 easy to understand and more importantly FUN to understand. 👍🏻

Thanks for the explanation Sam! Can't wait for your videos with Bernie and Craig on the 2026 regs, well when they are released in detail!

Even VW knows testing a car in the garage is very different to testing it on the road. 😉

You've got it completely backwards. It doesn't cause flexibility. You need to build the part with some flexibility in mind, because it being completely rigid (and still light) would mean it would snap off with the forces involved.

Flexibility exists because it was built that way. It's allowed because despite the rules, physics are a thing. Even gun barrels flex and wiggle while fired (check out .50bmg slow mo firing) and that's also by design for the same reason. You could build a completely rigid gun barrel but it would then be way too brittle.

Didn’t expect F1 official channel is making a video explaining to redbull why wings flex

Should really show a comparison between old and new when discussing upgrades.

Kick Sauber are already running the 2026 rear wing

Sammy the best guy, in my eyes the best change that came with Liberty.

And he's getting upgrades as well, there seems to be a bulbous aero device at his front, clearly to optimize the airflow around his waist.

On behalf of all of us here. I'd like to congratulate Sam on the expectant baby.
Hope it's an easy birth Mr Collins

Although drag reduction is a benefit, I thought the real benefit to flexible front wings was aero balance. As the front wing backs off and loses down force it shifts the aero balance rearwards. That means you can still have a pointy car in the low speed corners and a more stable car in fast corners.

The FIA needs to build their own wind tunel. Then they can randomly pulll a part, or even a whole car from these teams, and then they could really find out what these sneaky engineers are really up to.

Makes you wonder what could be done with the floor and the inner body that you can’t see or measure.

Perhaps using the air to change the shape over a certain airflow to stall the floor on the straights? It would make top speed through really fast corners less (Parabolica) but allow more everywhere else.

Or, you could have the inner body work collapse and make the floor less severe.

If the floor moves under load, who is going to know?

How much is actually needed to make a difference?

I have a question, does a subscription to F1 TV from the F1 website have more tech talk episodes than what's posted on YouTube? I'd love to watch more technical details about Formula 1 and I love the Sam Collins breakdown of new aero updates to the cars, I just want MORE!

Its quit amazing how sam gets those small details change on F1 cars

We should have more of these videos. Sam is goat for this but F1 media channels don't allow him much to do much more. More videos would be better
