I was just having a conversation with a friend the other day about how I wished Premiere would utilize my GPU for encoding and decoding in the timeline! Adobe is listening... ;)

So that's why my GPU is suddenly being used for decoding during timeline playback...this is a great update for sure!

Does this only apply to timelines using mp4? I edit with PNG sequences. The idea of editing with compressed video is a non starter for me.

Wondering if this is gonna help to speed up my workflow on my slower laptop with gtx970m. Heard that hardware acceleration only works on newer versions than gtx1050. But don't know if it's true.

I don't see this on the MacBook. Win only?

FYI You need a GTX 1060 or higher on the NVIDIA side.

So Adobe lie's us. The could add this feature years ago, but probay they have deal with PC brands to push you to buy newer and stronger machine for editing. Now with new RTX, they decided to enable GPU acceleration and now i can do smooth edit with my i5 4th generation, even 4k also so smoothly.

I had to roll back to 14.4... while the improvements are pretty cool (even with some added effects too!)... it now crashes a lot in other areas, like moving graphics around or making a mask. I have a 3900x and a GTX 1660ti too! Sheesh, too soon Adobe? :P

Do not download this update! I just tried it and it's the usual BS...I opened an old project and I can't scrube the timeline fluidly. It's basically a slide show and this is the same thing that happens every time I try a new version of Premiere. Sticking with 2019.

Got an RTX2070 Super and I don't see *ANY* improvement & the GPU activity still stays at 0% in the task manager. So far I've tested GoPro 9 MP4s, DJI's MP4s, Sony's XAVC-S, and some other random H.264 MP4s. So far, only H.264s contained in MXFs (like the XAVC-I All-Intra and XAVC-L Long GOP) are being decoded by the GPU but it already worked fine from at least CC 2017.

In Da Vinci Resolve all of the aforementioned codecs are being properly decoded on the GPU, heck, even the new MAGIX Vegas 18 can utilize GPU as well. It's truly mind-boggling that Adobe still lacks in this vital aspect of editing - smooth playback of the most widely used codec.

I don't believe it ....and after watching Adobe botch every recent premiere update I'm afraid of updating.
