What's Wrong with American Politics? 'Of By For' Director Christopher Kay

Why are Americans so frustrated with democracy? That is the question Christopher Kay traveled around the country to ask.

Kay is the filmmaker behind a new documentary, Of By For, about the disconnect of modern American politics. "This republic won't last very long," says Kay, "if we continue with more, and more, and more, and more money and power going into fewer and fewer hands."

Decentralize power in DC by moving to a flat or consumption tax, close down dept. Ed, energy, the EPA, etc...and bring the power of those institutions to state and local governments. Leave national defense, foreign treaties, interstate commerce, transportation to the Feds. More power to state and local government where accessibility to the average citizen is increased.

After watching this i went out and bought the film from amazon. BOUGHT NOT DOWNLOADED,  i shocked my wife by that action but i felt supporting this film was worth

Great documentary. There are a lot of docs that have great info, but are just plain hard to endure otherwise. The info in this one is great, but it was also easy on the eyes and had great music.

Well I'm tired of people calling the U.S. a democracy because for Pete's sake we're a freaking Republic!

We may "have far more common than we have been led to believe".  But what we disagree on is fundamental.  I believe aggression is unjust so I am an anarcholibertarian, whereas most Americans do not believe aggression is always unjust so they are statists.

The old saying about the American political system is that it is the worst in the world except for all the rest. But even if that is true that is simply not good enough with so much power located in one city and people not being able to know what funds all of that power and how the money is spent.

They do make a great point about both parties being the same except for certain "wedge issues". "Hey everybody, please ignore how me and my opponent agree 90% of the time, we gotta talk about the wedge issues like they really matter, such as abortion."

Funny thing, the past few days every other page I see attack ads against this dude running for congress. At least 3 different ads but they only say one thing; that he is anti-abortion and and wants to overturn Roe v Wade (as if he could). [makes exadgerated expression of shock] You mean to tell me a Republican opposes abortion? OMG! I mean seriously this guy was a lobbyist but all you can say about him is the SHOCKING news that he like every single other Republican has the same stance on the same old wedge/non-issue that never fails to scare otherwise apolitical women/religious people into voting. 

Weak, they spent all this money to show me this ad 50 times just to tell me that this guy is in fact a card carrying Republican and make sure women know to be scared of him [somehow] overturning Roe v Wade and forcing them to bear Harlequin fetuses when their dads rape them.
