Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If you're into being off-grid and boondocking or doing dispersed camping whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations and 12v refrigeration. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

About 20 years ago I remodeled a four berth caravan aka camper trailer that was originally built in the late 70s, all of the 1/4" Masonite wall and ceiling panels were rotten to some extent 😢 ended up using 1/4" Baltic fir plywood cut using original panels as stencils, replaced the thin glass fibre insulation with thinsulate boat insulation and rewired everything and my ex girlfriends dad still says that I did good work and can't understand why his daughter dumped me 😂 live and learn 😊

I removed the heavy 3/8 OSB and replaced it with 3/16 plywood for weight savings. Ran furring strips anchored to the frame for attachment points.

Good point! Use thick quality plywood with exterior grade adhesive and you won’t be sorry. 😎

You can spend the money and get nice half inch birch cabinet plywood. That will give you a nice finished look and a tough plywood. If you're going to mount heavy items to the wall, it's always good to plan it out first and install backing between the framing members. For minimal work, you could always mount a 1x4 to the wall as a mounting strip. For your beds, a 1x4 post down to the floor should work well to support both beds but it might be good to terminate the post on top of another 1x4 at the bottom of the wall to spread the load across floor frame members instead of one point. You do what you need to do. Take care.

We didn’t use any different wall covering than what came in the camper. I can’t remember how thick it is. But it’s quite thick and holds everything we’ve attached to it. I didn’t realize some came with no interior walls or no thick ones. Good advice for anyone looking to build out.

Enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing your adventures. We’re moving our efforts to a cargo trailer and away from our rv. Thanks also for sharing locations…most people are too secretive.

Go to a real wood supply shop, not a big box. They will have a much better selection with staff that can help show you what they sell

Hi Rick. Wow, I never gave this subject any thought as How many times have I had to deal with cargo-rig plywood??? I figured they were all the same. I bet Ya wish you could redo everything??? Maybe 'one section' at a time??? Rick, I see you are going to Swap-Out your solar system and up-grade it all, so I'm looking forward for those episodes. I haven't figured out if roof panels are the better way to go, to fire up that EcoFlow Wave Air-Conditioning unit??? What's best Rick??? I really appreciate the fact that you have the experience from doing your own wiring and many others. I'm almost too embarrassed even just asking, not wanting to appear to be the fool with something I should already know about. So Yes, the next project has arrived. Thank You Again. Hi Linda👋

I used 3/8 AC plywood. Weight should be a conversation.
If you are mounting something heavy go to the studs. And consider using glue also.

You couldn’t have hit the nail on the head any better. Shoulda, woulda couda. I have done the same sort of build myself and used the junky plywood, but covered that with semi standard decent paneling because no amount of paint could cover the shotty job they did. I wish I would have marked out or written down the stud locations for later add on’s. I used a pin nailer for the paneling.
Ceiling is awhile other monster that should have been framed out or covered in plywood for lights ceiling fan install pre wiring. Having a written out design and or masking tape a layout inside would have certainly helped. My motto I guess is dive in build it and after sit and think gee I should have done………. Love your videos. Thanks

Good subject, my first budget trailer (sold it) 1/4" OSB interior, 3/4" OSB floor, a flat roof in three sections with taped joins (that eventually leaked) 24" O/S side bows with 22 gage exterior skin. Sold it, paid a lot more but a trailer built to last with a one piece curve around roof.

Get Barn type rear doors, more versatile, you can hang stuff on them.
