If you just kill all the raiders he is fine with you. You can complete Nuka world, get all the goodies and then as long as you dont take any settlements in the commonwealth you can go back to preston and he's fine. They really missed an opportunity to include one of the base game factions in the dlc. In Far Harbour you can tell the Brotherhood about the synths. Its a shame you cant tell the minute men about the raiders. Mounting an assault on Nuka world with them would be awesome and make a lot more sense than one lone maniac taking them all on alone.

After i complete the main storyline, i like to think my character is so full of grief that he decides to journey to Nuka-World to forget about the Commonwealth and falls with the raiders there and goes on a destructive path

the same happens if u side with BOS to destroy the institute, after that he just constantly scolds you that you killed some pepole and then sends you on yet another saving the settlements mission

On my first play through Preston is still pissed at me. I’ve beaten the game, every dlc. I locked him in a cage, but when I travel to nordhagen beach he still gets out and shoots me.
