Flashback Friday: If Fructose Is Bad, What About Fruit?

preview_player
Показать описание
Does the fructose naturally found in fruit and fruit juice have the same adverse effects as excess “industrial fructose” (table sugar and high fructose corn syrup) and if not, why not?

Surprised about the juice results? Me too! More on juice:

A few videos I have on industrial sugars:

How else can we blunt the glycemic spike?

Thanks for watching. I hope you’ll join in the evidence-based nutrition revolution!

My dad is severely diabetic. He was eating like the doctor told him. He avoided fruits, vegetables, and carbs. He increased his fat and protein. His A1C was 8.2. It wasn’t getting better. I told him to ignore the doctor and eat fruits and vegetables. He started eating baby carrots with his lunch and his snacks are apples. His A1C dropped to 7.0. I just told him to add more fruits and vegetables to his diet and it will drop even lower. I told him that it is best to cut out all the saturated fats.

If a doctor tells you that fruit is bad, run away fast.

Thank you so much for this video Dr. Greger. This is super important to talk about. There currently seems to be a war on fruit even though it has so much valuable nutrition! I wish that more people knew about this and would eat them. Your videos always inspire me to keep posting on my channel.

I am an omnivore (I eat lots of everything as long as its unprocessed and in its pure form), but I have to say I love the channel and the videos even though I have no intention of becoming vegan. Very informative, and funny, thanks for the links to the studies and facts. Excellent presentation and editing, too.

does this count for berries only or for fruits and fiber in general

Berries contain less sugar than sweet fruit ie: jackfruit, durian, mango, dragon fruit, orange, banana, apple, etc.

What if you consume processed sugar WITH fruit? Like a sweetened smoothie or sugar sprinkled on a bowl of berries. Does the fruit negate the sugar, or is the extra sugar unhealthy regardless?

I bought a dehydrator and while I really like mushrooms, bananas and beets are thee best, but I was worried about the fructose. Thank you!

Does the spike change if you use cooked berries?

Berries are low glycemic. Higher glycemic fruits would produce a greater spike. I wonder if they would also create a blood sugar dip afterwards...

What about agave syrup? Is it as bad as or worse than table sugar?

Edit: feel free to criticize or correct me. About once a week I’ll drink a can of diet pop (I know all pop is not healthy).
My sister, who gets her nutritional knowledge from alternative, claims pop sweetened with cane sugar is healthier.
I’ve stated pop with 40 grams of refined cane, evaporated cane, high fructose corn or honey, all spike one’s blood sugar.
Am I correct?
I also stated that a glass of cherry juice containing 40 grams of sugar would have pretty much the same spike!

I’m clearly wrong on that count as this study reveals.

Deep down everyone knows fruit is healthy. It's just that a lot of our modern-day fruit is so hybrid and GMO that sugar content is way too high. It doesn't make all Fruit bad though. I am a 100% fruitarian and have zero health problems.
