In this video we cover the transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide. As part of this we talk through the structure and function of haemoglobin, how oxygen is loaded into and unloaded from the blood depending on partial pressures, showing how this may be represented in oxygen dissociation curves (and also how different forms of haemoglobin such as foetal haemoglobin have different affinities for oxygen). We then link this to the transport of carbon dioxide and explain the chloride shift and Bohr effect.
