In the comment section many people held differing opinions. Some thought that online certificates are not useless at all. Some thought online certificates are not totally worth it. Because I still think that many Online Courses out there are definitely not helpful I decided to screen the offering online to give you the Top 5 Online Certificates That Are Actually Worth It. Especially for students.

Harvard’s edX program got me from 25k to 90k in less than a year. Can’t recommend it enough

Great video! There is also a very popular certificate program called CS50 for business professionals offered by Harvard University (it is a course on introduction to computer science for business people, it costs around 200$). SCRUM or project management certificates are great as well. And there is also one more academic approach to gaining great knowledge from online courses/classes, which is to become a visiting student in Ivy Leagues. It comes with a steep price, but many times these universities offer merit-based scholarships for accepted students who have a very good overall grade (this is a great option because students gain knowledge plus also class credits).

I did BIWS before working as an equity research analyst, it was quite helpful! Also got my CFA about a decade ago. Helped me transition from journalism into finance.

The cfa corporate finance for Udemy would be one topic from like 10 if I remember correctly for cfa level 1 material. no one will care or think that it’s related to the cfa charter and equivalent to passing three, six hour exams...you’ll need the cfa designation after your name. Take it from someone who has the cfa charter.

If your Working in asset management, try to get your employers to pay for your CFA or have them reimburse you.

Planning to do the CMA. Not directly finance related but the positions you qualify for are hybrid finance/accounting/strategic management.

You failed to mention that Experience will beat out your Degree. Basically Experience > Degree > Certificate. Portfolio of proven work is greater then any single piece of paper. I am a lead developer and have been for years, and have had countless opportunities to hire people. So I usually lean towards the person who can prove they can do the work. I have turned many Stanford, Harvard and MIT students away. So if you want to get a job quick get out there and do the projects. If you spent 4 years doing projects instead of college you would get the job faster. Good luck

Nobody is literally going to think the Udemy course is equivalent to the real CFA. It looks terrible (negative, not neutral) to do something like that. Other than that, excellent advice throughout.

Quite industry specific but FRM and ERP from GARP are great courses as well.

The CFA is really hard and a struggle though. It also takes around 3 years minimum + 2 years of professional work experience. It's good, but is it worth it?

Your intro is awesome. Just want you to know that your accent is fabulous. I'm currently a student in the CFO program at Columbia Business School. The verdict is out on whether it will get me a raise or a new job since I won't be done with the program until September 2022. I'll keep you posted.

Interesting. Your list is very finance-oriented.
I took a Stanford Course about 10 years ago, called "Cryptography and Computer Security".
The company I was working for at the time paid for it, so can't say what is would cost. ($1200?)
I got a job last month because of having taken this class, so it was not a total loss.
