Well actually, when shadow was re awakened by eggman in SA2 he had his memories altered by Gerald of what Maria's last wish was, which caused shadow wanting to destroy the earth because Gerald wanted revenge, he only completely lost his memory after he almost died(from sonic heroes to shadow the hedgehog)

This is why Shadow is one of my favorite characters. He has dark backstory and doesn’t make promises that he can’t keep.

Shadow and Maria's friendship was very adorable. This shows a side of Shadow which we had never seen. Which might be the reason why Eggman hates humanity but I'm not very sure about that.

This reminds me of Ricket Raccoon’s backstory, Shadow I’d a tortured soul who was created by scientists for cruel purposes and he also lost a friend to the scientists Everett she was eliminated along with the other subjects.

Maybe Sonic 3 could open up with a flashback to how Shadiw is created while the acoustic version of ‘Creep’ plays in the background
