Grew up with 3 Beagles. Now I have 1 Beagle. Sweetest dogs and absolutely a joy to your life. Easy for starting dog owners, but with enough quirks to help you grow as owners. Their nose will get them in trouble constantly, but have the softest face and ears. Everything about the Beagle is great and I always recommend them to anyone.

Beagles are such a great breed. I’ve had three in my lifetime and each one was great. They are such smart, funny, playful, and sweet dogs. But you have to keep an eye on their ears bc they are prone to getting ear infections and it smells bad.

The Beagle is an Ancient breed of dog, and although associated with England, (Britain), the dogs originally came from Northern Africa. They were brought back to the UK during the Crusades and were highly prized as hunting dogs. Beagles were originally used to find rabbits and other small game, hence the excellent sense of smell! Beagles are very friendly dogs, but once on a scent they become single minded and will not give up! Beagles need a strong leader and good sense of belonging to a family or "pack". They are very cute, but don't let that fool you. They can be all about business when hunting!

I liked the “somewhat independent character “, another way of saying obedience is not a strong point. Every other dog I’ve had I’ve been able to walk most places without a leash, but not any of my 3 Beagles. One, my 2 yr. old, is good until she smells or sees a rabbit, squirrel, seagull, etc. and then she is off.
