The Beagle is known for being the, "Merry Little Hound". First bred in England for hunting hare and fox, the Beagle has a similar appearance of the much larger Foxhound.

Stephen Cabral is a AKC handler, who has extensive experience handling beagles and many other recognized AKC dog breeds. Stephen came into a deeper relationship with Beagles when he met his lovely fiance who has been involved with the breed for some time. He has been very successful showing Beagles, he and Fin, finished top 20 in the AKC last year.

Beagles were in the United States by the 1840s at the latest, but the first dogs were imported strictly for hunting and were of variable quality. Since Honeywood had only started breeding in the 1830s, it is unlikely these dogs were representative of the modern breed and the description of them as looking like straight-legged Dachshunds with weak heads has little resemblance to the standard. Serious attempts at establishing a quality bloodline began in the early 1870s when General Richard Rowett from Illinois imported some dogs from England and began breeding. Rowett's Beagles are believed to have formed the models for the first American standard, drawn up by Rowett, L. H. Twadell, and Norman Ellmore in 1887.The beagle was accepted as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1885. In the 20th century the breed has spread worldwide.

I love Beagles! My grandparents have one. He's such a sweet dog, and a little unusual. He doesn't bark much. Only when he has to pee or when someone comes to the door.

i know beagles to be the best breed of dog ever. they are extremely intelligent, lovable and follow their natural traits. respect them, understand them and love them. I don't like they way they are abused. a beagle has made my life much better. just don't hurt them.
