Raccoons get a parasite from eating garbage that basically destroys their brains and they will do things like walk around in circles like they're chasing their tails or just lay down and wait to die. It is extremely sad.

If that raccoon did not jump up and run away when you picked its head up, you need to.

In a 10th of a second, it will look like you got in a fight with a running skill saw.

It more than likely was. Even if it was actually distemper or the feline disease, that thing was checking out. I recently had a run in with one that was not so close to death. You guys are lucky.

Come on. No way would you mess with a raccoon like that. A healthy raccoon is a beast. A sick raccoon is a demon.

I had pet raccoon back in 70's. Farmer found 4 babies on road beside dead mom, we had no animal sanctuaries in area, were unfamiliar with such. Farmer found homes for all, we got a male we named Mo, was great pet used kitty litter with our cats, slept on our beds, went in and out with cats in daytime. Loved to cuddle

Call the local game and fish office and let them deal with it so they know if there’s a disease coming into the area. That’s info they always need to know asap

I’ve found a raccoon like this that fell from a really tall tree and bounced. He laid there for like an hour trying to get his head right. I thought he had brain damage but after some time he just walked off lol

Rabies, distemper, parvo, there is a long list of why to steer clear of nocturnal animals during the day.

Rabies until proven otherwise
Leave him be . If it’s rabies it’s endstage
If boozed he’ll wake up later and wander back home

I've seen this behavior with wild animals that have eaten fermented fruit. They become super intoxicated and lethargic.

If you see a coon out during the day, then that coon ain't normal, and very possibly is rabid.

There's a chance he's stoned out of his mind from fermented corn. Either way leave him be.
