There are 2 wire color standards for 7 way plugs. The RV standard and the SAE standard.

YEP... just got my harness for my utility trailer and the colors don't match my vehicle and can be confusing for anyone else who uses the trailers. the harness i ordered was for a rv set up. unfortunately no one makes a utility harness 7 way that matches the gmc or gm older wiring diagrams colors. the 7way either has a purple or black wire to replace the LT GREEN wire that is the backup wire for the trailer lights. the colors on my suburban are : brown for lights, green for right side, yellow for left side, white for ground, red for HOT, blue for brake controller and light green with stripe for the reverse lights. I'm reordering a new harness with purple wire that i'll use as my reverse Lighs

Retired construction mechanic. I used to frustrate me that the color code for the RV style plugs doesn't match the standard SAE color code. Makes more work for whoever has to wire the trailer.

just send power to each cable and see what lights up on your trailer plug; it has an led light indicator for you. colors don't matter, its the connection.

So there is actually 2 different types with different wire colors i have the same exact 7 way plug on my Toyota but my Ford truck is different

Ok so what are the right corresponding colors? I am having the same problem I would love to just know which colors go to which colors.

homz each terminal on the plug, so u know what terminal leads to what color wire... then connect the color wire of the trailer fallowing the diagram on box to the indicate terminal

On my trailer
Plug to trailer wire:

Red with yellow
Brown with green
blue with red
Green with brown
Black with black
White with white

Yellow i guess suppose to be the blue

But my trailer doesnt used it
So i just cut it left it alone on my trailer
RV gonna be different fallow the diagram on the box

i don't understand why they change the colors from one vehicle to another and for each different trailer...ie: boat, RV or utility trailer. Just keep it simple and make them all the same for 7 way plug and harness

Red wire is a RV standard plug…. Look for a 7 pin plug with the purple wire, it will be automotive standard..

Because Rv trailer and traditional 7 pin are different

I always just read the diagram on the package. 🤷🏽‍♂️
