The story was built up as click bait. They didnt "stick it" to their bosses as described. They had class and charm and this was obviously not a clandestine maneuver at all.

During that time in some areas there were cuts. A friend that was a long time anchor in the sf bay area had to take a pay cut during that time so he quit. Agencies are constantly cutting back and you wonder if this was the reason they left.
