Shortest way to get the answer is, let X is the required area of yellow rectangle. Since height of all the rectangles are same, we can equate "the height of first rectangle plus the yellow rectangle" with "the yellow rect plus the third rectangle". Then we get (12+X)5=(16+X)/6. Which gives, 80+5X=72+6X. That gives us X=8 is the required area of the yellow rectangle. Thank you anyway.

The problem as stated didn't allow for changing the given rectangle's height. It ONLY works if it happens to be 4, so for other heights, the problem has no solution.
