For people who want that camera protectionwihtout sacrificing camera quality get a case with a camera cover that slides over the camera or a case with a nice raised lip!

Lens protector saved my camera on my iPhone 13 a few months ago when I tripped and fell on a rock with my whole bodyweight landing first on the iPhone in my pocket. The case had a raised lip around the camera module, which did nothing to prevent the small rock corner to pinch into my camera lens. The protector shattered but the lens was luckily fine

Optics Engineer here, I protect my camera lenses(UV Filter), … all of them, from Traditional Lenses to my 🍏 Pro Max($8 MagSafe Case). That said, I’ve seen Leica Summicron and Summilux/Zeiss Distagon, Planar, and a Vario Sonnar with heavily scratched front elements. A Vario Summicron with a cracked front element, and it only degraded on a pixel peeping level, with backlit situations. All that said, it’s a matter of resale value to me to keep all lenses protected. I’ve never noticed a protector decreasing photo quality, and if it did, I’d take it off and get a “new” one. I am from the generation where our grandmothers couch was plastic covered, and Carpet (YUCK!) had plastic walk ways!!!

Micro scratches are a genuine concern especially if you're going to use your phone for a few years, which is true for most people. I haven't used a screen protector or lens protector for like a decade at this point, so I know your device is bound to get annoying micro scratches from just regular use going in and out of your pocket or bag. Screen and lens protectors just offer a better long term experience because you can always just remove them and the difference in quality is minimal and less then that of micro scratches

They don’t reduce quality. I work at an Apple repair store that also sells accessories. I apply these daily for customers and always check to make sure there’s no imperfections or reductions in quality after putting them on. We also have repeat customers (usually old people who have no grip) that love to tell me how it’s amazing that they don’t lose quality while taking pictures.

According to JerryRigEverything, iPhone lenses don't use sapphire. Stop capping. I'm going to keep my protector.

Dropped my 13 pro and the telephoto lens shattered. So I use one to stop any further damage

It is perfectly okay to use lense protectors most of them makes a small difference. The unpure sapphire glass cracks easier because glass is glass and glass will break.. the harder the glass the more brittle. Using a camera lens the difference is so minimal that most consumers won't even know or care. It's perfectly fine.

After reading most of the comments, i certainly agree that it's necessary to add protection to your lens lol.

I disagree. Lol they barely affect the camera quality if you get a good quality lens protector. They’re literally a lifesaver.

Literally one month after buying an iPhone 14 pro I dropped it and one camera cracked because of how insanely big the whole unit is. Get the lens protector and buy a DSLR if you want quality photos.

This is like the TikTok videos where random teenagers post blatantly incorrect information while attempting to appear like they actually know what the fuck they are talking about.
