iOS was first revealed in 2007 and has arguably become the most influential operating system in history. Before it existed, mobile phone software was cumbersome, complicated, and visually unappealing. But after its debut, the concept of a smartphone was completely redefined. With a touch-based operating system taking precedent over physical buttons. Eventually, the influence of iOS rippled across countless industries. From tablets, to watches, to cars, and even refrigerators. Since 2007, iOS has grown in ways many never expected. So let’s take a look at how it ended up where it is today. Starting with its development in 2005.

Fun fact: siri was originally available on the app store and worked with iphone 4. I remember being confused when it disappeared because it seemed to be taking off. When apple showcased it with the 4s, my friends dad didn’t believe me that it wasnt originally made by apple. Apple had covered up the acquisition extremely well at the time.

People who weren't alive during this technology boom can't comprehend how futuristic all this was. Was unbelievable.

Crazy to see the progress they’ve made. The more recent updates have really tied all their services, devices, and apps together to create a really powerful ecosystem. They’ve also really increased the use of AI

This is probably the best video you've ever made, and as an iOS user for more than a decade I cannot thank you enough for bringing me back so many good memories, thank you very, very much!

I believe iOS 8 has been sort of the tipping point where Apple knew where the smartphone will move forward to. From iOS 1 - 7, it's all about perfecting the phone's basic capability. I believe it was perfected in iOS 7. Since then, the new features and updates has been a mixture of enhancing existing apps or making a new API standard to which developers can gain access to a plethora of new capabilities within the hardware and software. I believe that's a good thing, because not only Apple gives us an exciting plaything for developers to tinker about, but also for developers to provide new features for users to be excited about.

Watching this documentary about the history of IOS brings back so many memories we've made in the early years of smartphones.
It made us connect mWore with social media and text messages. It also made us consume content like watching YouTube videos on the go, and listening to music.
Those days made me feel like there was something new that comes out and it was worth getting excited about. Remember when people would line up at an Apple store to be the first to get the latest iPhone? Those days are long gone now.

I’ve always wanted to see what iPhones would be like today if Steve was still around.

iOS 11 was my personal favorite, it had that modern design yet, still held the classic font style that the iOS 8 had. Most of my love for iOS 11 comes from the status bar lol. I loved the battery icon, was longer and sharper, yet was a modern and sleeker design compared to iOS 10. Then the cellular bars which also seemed rounded than what we have today. I loved how it fit perfectly with the iPhone 8. iOS 8 is my second favorite, it’s soooo classy and nobody does it like that anymore. The blur effects are so classy, feels rich, the wallpaper that came along with it… it’s all so nice. Might prefer that over iOS 11 but it all depends.

Wow I remember a lot of this. It's fun to look back and remember where life was at that time and remember how big of a deal it was with each feature that came out. And then when the redesign came with iOS 7 I remember how exciting it was to see that new look. Many memories and enjoyed the video for sure!

So much of these features added in the early versions of iOS like setting up your iPhone without plugging it into your pc seems like such a basic feature. I'm honestly impressed.

What sucks is Apple Maps still has that stigma almost a decade later even though it’s actually fantastic now

I can’t wait to brag to my future kids that I had lived through the creation of the smartphone and the earliest iPhones, iOS updates, etc.

To me this video highlights that over time, small tweaks yoy instead of revolutionary changes large portions of users often want yield better results over time. I’ve used iOS since iOS 3.2.1 and to be honest every update felt underwhelming at the time apart from individual certain features (multitasking, notification centre etc), but looking back you can see the progress the platform has made. Kaizen at its absolute finest.

I really appreciate the skeuomorphism that Steve Jobs and Scott Forstall advocated. It's just classic and nostalgic. I mean one can realize how it was carefully, heartedly designed. Newer IOS versions since IOS 7 just don’t give that great vibe from before.
