I just got one and it is great. The unit I have came with software version 1.03 but I updated it to 1.06 with firmware on the Kodak website and most of the annoying items are fixed. The zoom is no longer jerky but is now smooth as silk. The low light is better and I got it for $150 on Amazon. I am running with an 8gb card. It is slimmer than a Flip and provides a better image. It is a great deal. I highly recommend it.

I just about bought a Flip Mino HD, but this by far is so much better. I would call this little camera the flip killer. Flip is dead. No longer apart of my life, and hello Kodak.

Amazon as of 9/27/10 has the Zi8 for $125. Great demo and this video just sold me on the Zi8. The external microphone and able to upgrade the memory as well as high quality video was the selling point to me.

@awings718 I had a hard time deciding that too and I finally bought the Zi8. Only differences are the Zi8's ext mic jack and macro switch and the Playsport's underwater feature.

You can get one on Amazon for about $99 now.
eBay has used ones for $70-$80. Some sellers on eBay even include an SD card.
The Kodak Zx3 is great too. It is waterproof but doesn't have an external mic input like the Zi8. If you want something more rugged, wait for the Kodak Zx5 (new version of Zx3) that will be released on March 28. It is waterproof, dust proof, and shock proof.

Bought a Zi6 for work to do some research and while the low light and stability issues didn't for the most part affect the work they occasionally became a problem. Having said that the camera did it's job (out and about gathering video data for later analysis) so I'd be more than happy to upgrade to a Zi8 if they've kept the basics the same and just added the image stabilisation and a better low-light response.

I've given up on the candy bar camcorders. I like going to concerts and stuff and I like having a tilt screen. I still wanted something that was small enough to fit in my pocket so I went with the sanyo cg10. Takes 720p video, 10mp stills, even takes stills while recording video, takes sdhc cards, and has great menu features. Plus the 3 inch screen rocks!!
