Comparing the two identical shots you did outdoors, the Kodak wins hands down for detail and color reproduction. The Flip looks like it records oversaturaed chroma levels. Thanks for taking your time to help those who want an un-biased review.

@exticide that is very true and a very nice feature of the Flip. You can use the included rechargeable batteries or simply swap out standard AA batteries. Kodak has proprietary rechargeable one.

On the Zi8, the macro is actually a toggle switch that you have to do manually. It doesn't do it automatically (and note that the click noise does show up in your video if you do it real-time - at least that was my experience).

@iNerdLife You use the USB connector to download your videos. You normally don't have to remove the SD card unless you have multiple and want more storage.

Yes, either the Flip or the Kodak are both good 1st camcorders especially for quick HD movies. They are both very small and easy to use.

In my article, I talk about that. You have to use the software to do a freeze frame from a video. The Zi8 had an actual picture taking mode.

Thanks for the very good review. How ever my recommendation is Sony DSC-TX7. Compared to these two camcorders there's a clear difference in a video quality. More expensive but in this case it's really easy to tell why.

excellent side-by-side review. I have been a long time deep supporter of Flip and I still have Flip's first generation cam working great for my standard def YouTube films. But Kodak has come far in leaps and bounds and makes me seriously consider this as my pocket HD cam to purchase rather than the Flip Ultra HD. I wonder if Flip will fire back soon with their new product to compete with the Zi8.

@Bailey10257 Thanks! Did you look at the review on my blog? I go into the editing software a bit there. Personally, on the Mac with the Zi8, I just use iPhoto to import and iMovie to do stuff with it.
