FILM DESCRIPTION:
Emmy Award-winning director Tom Hooper (John Adams) teams with screenwriter David Seidler (Tucker: A Man and His Dreams) to tell the story of King George VI. When his older brother abdicates the throne, nervous-mannered successor George "Bertie" VI (Colin Firth) reluctantly dons the crown. Though his stutter soon raises concerns about his leadership skills, King George VI eventually comes into his own with the help of unconventional speech therapist Lionel Logue (Geoffrey Rush). Before long the king and Lionel have forged an unlikely bond, a bond that proves to have real strength when the United Kingdom is forced to flex its international might.

This is one of those movies I don’t mind watching over and over again, just for the sheer enjoyment of these characters. And the fact that it is almost 100% accurate is what makes it even more interesting.

Every time Bonham Carter and Rush talk in this movie I keep having to remind myself that these are the same actors who play Bellatrix Lestrange and Hector Barbossa respectively. Brilliant performances!

'Behind every great man is a great woman' may seem archaic by 21st century standards but considering through most of history few opportunities were allowed for women to be at the forefront it is a statement that has been demonstrated countless times.
The role of Elizabeth, Queen Mother as a rock-solid support during the multiple crises facing her husband was if anything way understated.

Rush is an Actor's Actor. Carter is supremely talented, and can do pretty much anything: Always a joy to watch. And to top it off.. although Tim Burton has had her in some pretty wild get-ups.. she really is, quite simply, a very pretty girl.
