I read about this nanny in the movie’s book. It seemed that her husband left her and she had frustrated maternal feelings. She took them out on David and Bertie. She was jealous whenever she had to hand David over to his parents. David and Bertie were the ones who were mostly mistreated. Bertie developed stomach issues because of the abuse. Later, the nurse suffered a nervous breakdown. When George and Mary discovered the abuse, the woman was promptly dismissed and Charlotte “Lala” Bill was hired. Lala mostly cared for Johnnie, who was epileptic and possibly autistic.

In my opinion, this scene, where he shares the mistreatment he endured from the nanny, is the biggest take-away from the movie

I think what's most sad of all is he's never had anyone to really talk these feelings out to. The people he's closest to in the royal sphere are all the kinds of people who would use his insecurities to prey on him for their own gain, and he can't even have normal interactions with the average person on the street because of who he is. His whole life has been one prolonged exercise in being told to shut up and play his part, and that's probably where his stammer and inability to communicate really stems from. He has all these feelings he needs to let out, and there's nowhere he feels comfortable letting them out because he's not allowed to express those feelings.

I Love the final scene after the speech. HRH the Prince Elizabeth gives an honest but loving evaluation " much better Pa'pa " ❤❤ . HRH Princess Margaret Rose, " his Joy, " says : " You Were SPLENDID Pa'pa " ❤🥰❤🥰!

The real George VI was a Royal Navy and RAF officer from 1913 to 1919, including being commended for action during the Battle of Jutland serving as a RAF squadron commander. Of course he had exposure to the "common Englishman".
