An intensive search continues for survivors of the deadliest and most destructive flooding to hit western Europe in years. Some of the worst damage is in Germany, where days of heavy rain turned streets into muddy rivers. At least 130 people are dead, and many more are missing. Imtiaz Tyab reports.

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs.

Why is everyone so surprised like this couldn't have happened? We were warned for years that events like these would become more frequent and normal. Now it's actually happening and there's not too much we can do about it besides adapt and survive.

If you live next to a river, stream or flood plain sooner or later your going to have a flood !
These events can be 100, 200 or 300 hundred years apart and have been happening from the beginning of time.

Floods are a normal cycle, urbanization makes it worse…the population is much bigger than decades ago.

When you pave over one with concrete and agricultural land and cut down trees….flooding gets worse not “climate change”.

It’s the urbanization and land development.

The reason the lady said " only poor countries " she means that by the infrastructure in poor countries are not developed as good as others. In poor countries they don't have great drainage and dams etc. The thing is, man is ruining the earth, for one, number 2 bad things happen and are gonna keep happening... Everywhere on a large scale. It's terribly sad..hugs to all the villages and people who are affected.

I am so sorry for the lives lost and those whose properties were destroyed. But what I still try to understand is why the west always thinks that worst and bad things should only happen to poor countries. I hope this woman correct herself because natural disaster is a no respecter of any country weather rich or poor.

I think extreme weather patterns are becoming the norm. It's dry in California, Dallas was flooded in 2019 and blizzard in 2020. What next? Pray and hope you survive it.
