A fresh wave of army conscription gets underway in Russia, after president Vladimir Putin signed a decree calling up 147,000 citizens for statutory military service. It comes after 120,000 people were recruited in November. The Kremlin says this latest recruitment is routine and has nothing to do with Russia's war in Ukraine. In Russia, it is mandatory for men aged between 18 and 27 to carry out one year of military service.

When a Russian officer has to yell out to the company of recruited soliders that "you are not Cannon fodder!" You are definitely Cannon fodder..

In Soviet Russia you don't sign contract. Contract signs you.

"Mandatory to carry out one year of military service ..."

Unfortunately for most of them, it's gonna be shortened to a few months and they'll never have to worry about retirement.

Imagine your life’s purpose is just to exhaust enemy ammunition…

The sheer amount of approving and cheering comments by ordinary Russians under videos about the atrocities committed against civilians in Ukraine were no less shocking to Ukrainians than the war itself.
We somehow got used to the war, but the realization of who we have been living next to all this time without even knowing it is still terrifying.
These creatures call themselves our brothers.
Imagine what they would do to you, who call them their enemies, if you let them.
Not supplying weapons to Ukraine in order to achieve an early peace would be like allowing a violator to violate his victim in order to end the violence as soon as possible.

Watching these soldiers 'march' was painful... New uniforms, band playing, sky pilot front and center, new equipment slung, but can't even stay in step all the while looking sloppy and unmotivated - Tells you a lot about these 'soldiers' and their fate.

There's probably someone in the Russian command structure noticing that it's easier to let a wounded soldier pass than to spend all the effort and resources to treat and transport him back to Russia. There's plenty more cannon fodder available to take his place.

The sad thing is that some of them don't know what are they really fighting for, some knows the truth but have no choice or else...

"Conscripts are forbidden from serving outside Russia" - There are six territories which Russia claims as federal subjects within Ukraine's pre-2014 borders: Sevastopol, Crimea, Lugansk, Donetsk, Zaporozhe and Kherson.

I hope at some point not too far in to the future the Russian People will stand up against what Mr Putin is doing and stop this madness . Good people dying on both sides of this conflict for know good reason. All people want to do is be left alone live their lives.

One year! What a joke! Basic training for US troops is 8 weeks, with at least another 8 weeks for advanced training! Leaves 8 months for real service of any kind!

When they say that there will be no more conscription... It's when that will happen.

It was told this same story to last year's conscripts. Many died unspoken to their families!
