By Putin's logic England can reclaim the US as North America was "made" by England. Yeah, it sounds just as stupid.

It was actually fantastic to listen to Professor Timothy Snyder articulate and drive every point home quite well... much appreciated

What's happening with Ukraine today reminds me of what happened with the Sudetenland in the 1930s. Just sayin'.

As a grandchild of Russian, Jewish (Russian speaking) Ukranians who (thankfully) immigrated to Australia before I was born in the early 80's, I thank the professor for his time and his perspective. I wholeheartedly agree with all he says.

Ukraine shouldn't have to bow down to any BULLY Country. When a standing unanimous Ukraine response election has consistently refused Russian bullying behavior, they send the message that it is NOT ACCEPTABLE, TAKE CARE UKRAINE!

Can't stand when we call criminal political leaders Mr. They don't deserve such a title of honor

“We will never give up our sovereignty or values.”

But he’s apparently okay with taking away those things from another country

Maybe we should recognise all the non-ethnic Russian regions trying to break away from Russia, like Chechnya.

Ukraine was the birthplace of Russia, not Russia the parent of Ukraine. The Soviet Union was called "the graveyard of nations", and was a collection of generally unwilling nations. When Stalin agreed to join the UN he insisted on the "independent" nations that made up the USSR each got seats in the UN as countries. This included Ukraine. Of course these "countries" voted the way the USSR wanted them to, but this effectively set a precedent that these were actual countries. When the USSR collapsed, these nations all voted for independence from Russia. Their independence should be respected.

Puty knows he's wrong; that is why he was hysterical.

Ukraine was known to the ancient Greeks and had the same national symbol then (the tresub) as is used today. Kyiv was the 3rd largest city in Christian Europe when it became Christian in 988. Muscovy was still a moose pasture at that time and did not amount to much until 500 years later. Ukraine has its own culture and identity that pre-date Muscovy by at least 2000 years.

Since half of Americans believed Trump's lies, Putin figures he might as well run with it.

If you watch fox news' coverage of this crisis, you'd seriously have to ask yourself whose side are they on, Putin's or NATO's.

They need to do exactly what Putin fears. Have Ukraine join NATO.

Extremely insightful discussion. A shameful act indeed has just occurred from Putin and I’m afraid more will come from him.

Prof. Snyder's analysis is the best I have heard of the current situation and the background underlying it that I have heard. The best. You can put your retired military commanders on ice. We need to hear day by day from Prof. Snyder and others like him.
