NASA orders three more SpaceX Crew Dragon flights to space station
NASA has granted SpaceX a nearly $3.5 billion contract to provide three more Crew Dragon missions to the International Space Station.
The contract covers missions Crew-7, Crew-8, and Crew-9, but NASA has stated that additional crew launches may be ordered in the future.
NASA issued a request for new proposals in October to fly its astronauts on missions that would follow the 12 previously awarded to SpaceX and its counterpart, Boeing. The new contract represents the first flights arranged as a result of that call. Although the contract was already in the works, the announcement comes at a time when tensions between NASA and Russia, its main partner in the International Space Station collaboration, are high following Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The new SpaceX missions will allow NASA to maintain an uninterrupted US capability for human access to the space station.
